The technician's name at Clyde's Corner is Bill. He has been at this for many years and my colleagues and I have always found him honest in his dealings.
The grounding or rerouting of the filtered signals is interesting. I have a Bencher YA-1 that does not have a means of grounding as it is pop riveted together. The ICE filter, on the other hand, has two grounding posts. They advise grounding the filter close to the point of ground; whereas...
I actually just used a MFJ antenna analyzer and measured the filter. My antenna match on my beam is 1.1:1 and on the vertical it is 1:2.5:1. The match through the ICE filter is 1.2:1 on the beam and 1.3:1 on the vertical. My SWR when transmitting stays rock steady as measured on the LP-100a...
I just read a 'Reducing Radio Interference' article where it recommended placing a low pass filter after a watt meter - the last link before the antenna(s). I have always thought that the LPF should be placed before a meter and/or a scope so that any potential spurious signals would be...
They were very responsive and thorough. I told them I had voltage sensitive equipment. They looked up, saw the beam and got to work - at no cost to me. I am a happy camper now.
As an update, the utility company came and checked the service to the main panel. They re-cinched the connections on their side of the service to me, ran a 200 amp stress test and the voltage is now stable on both legs. The two 120 circuits were hunting and dropping trying to stabilize between...

The circuit in the shack now has 124 - 125 volts at idle. The good news is under full modulation, the voltage is over 115. I'm seeing 117-119. I had to move the garbage disposal off the good leg and swap in the shack circuit. Tough decision that. I'm going to pull in 220 and be...
I called the utility company. They are going to measure the circuit from their side, monitor the voltage for a week and check the meter for calibration. They are also going to look at the panel per your post and advise, based on the measurements, if I need to repace it. He indicated that at...
On the circuit which supports the washer and gas dryer, the voltage drops as well. I have a call into my ulitity company to discuss this. I suspect that it is the same all along the street. I never noticed this before. The amp draws so much current that it was apparent that something was...
Actually, my voltage varies anywhere from 120-125 and averages 123 depending on the time of the day. I was using 120 to demonstrate the voltage drop at the time it was 120. The 113 number was the measure after the amp was drawing current.
Yes, I was aware that I was measuring one side of the 220. I was just reporting from my notes. I'll use the 110v washing machine and 110v dryer (gas powered) at the same time and measure at the main. They are both on their dedicated circuit and are run simultaneously all the time. That way...
Peakaboo, I just edited this note to get the numbers correct from my notes.
Here are the results of my test:
Using a space heater that draws 8.5 amps, I went to the main panel. On the 120v leg that the shop is on, the voltage dropped by 2.5 volts with the heater on. The loss continued to...
What is 'typical' efficiency for an amp of this size. It seems to be well built with a good transformer. I have only measured what it draws up to 15 amps which is as high as I can measure. My colleague has a much more robust device that can measure what it is actually trying to pull.
In...
Ah, perhaps that is the problem. I have no way of knowing what the efficiency rating is and pulled 70% out of the hat. I'll use a space heater for the test which draws 9 amps to measure the voltage drop as I test.
Thank you, Peakaboo. I will indeed test at the main meter and work my way back. There is the main panel with the meter, a 220v run to the main subpanel and a 110/20amp run on 10 gauge to the sub panel in the shop/shack. The only thing plugged into the 20amp circuit is that amp. Everything...
