The reason the guy gets so many back is he probably doesn't understand the radio. It seems he already has it out for it due to SMT. I know it is a touchy critter to tune and can be overdone. I have sold.....I lost count, I've had two come back. One because the channel selector locked up...
There is no doubt that the 4300-300 will do the most power and is running the most stable amp transistors of the 3 radios (4xSD1446s). I have seen alot of them and like them but they seem to have junk echo boards in them. I have had about 6 come in for repair (Echo board is SMT mounted on the...
I typically see about 350 on my meters, yet I have done the 4x2SC2879 mod and it will do 525 on my meters. There is alot more than just changing over from the 1446s though. The 63FFC2 does about 200 on my meters after a good tune. The 98 has the same amp on it and does the same.
Best cb radio without a doubt is the Uniden Grant XL/LT, Cobra 148 GTL (Uniden Built), Cobra 2000 GTL or Uniden Madison 8719PLL. If you want to see what is really cool about these and what can be done, go here and check out the mod. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/the_mod/
After checking my bench meters against the bird I run in my mobil, I found a recalabrating was in order. I am now seeing about 150 to 175 watts PEP. Sheesh, time to retire these meters on the bench and put the bird in there.
I have experienced that the audio levels that were comming out of the PA speaker were extremely high doing that mod. If one experiences the same problem, they can either install a 56 Ohm resistor (standard with all of the radios I send out) or use a 100 Ohm VR and get the adjustment exactly...
I agree! (Had one returned because of a bad antenna system. It took out the driver, not the radios fault) I have sold over 50 of them in the last year. I get raving reports. Everyone that has purchased them likes them. I saw a claim in a prior post that their 200 was doing 5>90 on low and...
Thanks for the flowers. Being kinda new out there, it is good to get a good review from someone who knows how a radio should be done and how one should function.
I agree with most of that too. I do not think their adjacent channel rejection is 50% as good as a Grant/148 and I have seen them tend to drift, especially when cold.
Well, keep taking your radio to your tech. You know, techs are kinda like barbers. If you find a barber you like, keep going back, just like your tech.
DTB, you are correct. Ususally a problem can be found rather quickly. It always seems however as of late that once you spend 30 minutes finding one problem, it lends itself to a new problem, especially in antenna systems (which has nothing to do with the repair of the radio, yet is still part...
You are implying that the signal generator never gets used. On a repair job that the radio is worth the time and effort, I say every time! On a Cobra 25 that I sell used for $40, NEVER! When you have to use the signal generator that = time....plain and simple. Even if I were to use an...
I would have to say.....Uniden Grant XL and LT, Cobra 148GTL made in either Malasia (this would include the 148GTLF), Phillippines, or Taiwan, the Washington (3 buttons in the lower right corner) or my personal favorite:
Mabee I'm wrong, but I dont think you can do that with a 7 segment LED. You could possibly do it with a plasma screen like on the RCI 2950 but again I dont think its possible on the 7 segment LEDs found on 99% of the radios.
I personally thought it was a very well built radio. The only thing that was a nightmare was installing the talkback in it. Those little parts mess with your head!
We stand behind the policy. Alot of times they will give you the radio for your time. For example. We have a "parttime" radio thats been on the bench for 2 monthes. It's a Superstar 360FM that we cant find schematics to. Asside from that, we have fixed about 10 major things in it and its...
While I beilive in saving my customers a buck, it is nonsense of making $5 per piece profit on something like that. That makes it kind of hard to make ends meet. I constantly see guys selling stuff that I know they are getting from the same place as me for a $5 profit. It is hard enough to...
