Downloaded Sams CB-230, no colors. Its kinda strange, they have a picture with the 3 switch board and all the solder points labeled with numbers, but no legend telling me what all the numbers are. It also shows a CB with a 5 pin mic socket?
Does anyone happen to have a schematic of the three switch board for CB/PA, NB on/off, and the meter switch? There's about 19 wires going into this thing and two of the switches are lousy with bad connections causing a bunch of audio issues that get better or worse when I wiggle the cb/pa and...
Basically what you are talking about is what about half of the idiots with wire cutters and screwdrivers do on accident. They Over-Modulate to over 120% which can cause the transmission to bleed 5 channels up and down. Generally not considered a good thing unless you just want to make a lot...
Well the unit appears to be on frequency. I attached the freq counter with rca coax to fet4 with a 30pf cap, following 399's directions. The squeal on pa/cb mode disappeared. I think it's just some old caps that had to charge up a bit, they will all get replaced soon but other than the LSB...
Im contemplating the TIP120 mod. Already have a 10k pot attached to the TIP with the cap mounted on the transistor. I had a bad experience with that mod once, which is why I have the entire setup outside of the radio.
The transformer definitely got hot, I guess not long enough to hurt it...
LC, I appreciate your concern for trying to maintain some of these great radios as the number of them is dwindling. I didn't know they sold cap kits. I bought a big 35/50v assortment and replaced caps with that. Kit probably would have been easier
CBs were kind of the next step for me on the...
I did a recap on a 139XLR a few weeks ago, turned out ok after a few stumbles. It took 3 hours but I did them one at a time and other than one that went in backwards and was later fixed, it was pretty straight forward. I think they are very similar circuits but then again Google taught me...
I'm confused.
A working radio on all three modes with a broken clock is a basket case? It sounds great on the scanner and appears to be on frequency. But I won't know for sure until Amazon drops off the freq counter on Monday.
I thought a basket case was one of the 10 CBs I have in a pile...
Also the clock isn't working. It appears to have a large contact switch on top that wouldn't be accessible with the covers on?
I'm not real concerned about the clock. I have a 6 digit freq counter that would look excellent in the window, as well as opening up two more holes for switches.
Life! I twisted the pink orange and red wires from the back of the pot together and she fired right up! Here's the next issue. The receive only plays audio when it's in PA mode and when I key I get zero output and a loud squeal from the external speaker. When I switch back to CB mode, I get...
Aha! I took a quick break from my construction project and sat down for a second to look at old president Jimmy. I need to go back inside and retrieve my multimeter I was using for a.c. Wiring but while wiggling a small screw driver behind the volume pot, I got a spark. I did it again whilst...
Lots of good ideas! I really appreciate it. I checked that power was getting to the switch last night but for some reason I didn't check that it was flowing through the switch.
Will advise the status on everything else when I get done framing this basement side job. I really appreciate it...
I hate the name of this radio. Nearly impossible to find anything on Google.
Anyway, this is another base station I got from a super deal a few weeks ago. It did not come with an ac power cord so it's plugged into a power supply at 13.8vdc. Will not do anything when the volume switch is...
Well the swing mod fixed both problems. Gate voltage is now a cool 1.95 volts and the radio dks 2w and swings to 20+. Did a 47 ohm resistor and 330 uf electrolytic, which changed my on-air tone to somewhere between Barry Manilow and Louis Armstrong. Neat.
Well the meter is already bRoken so no worries there. I think my lack of swing is due to the high dead key. I'm only swinging to about 16w from the 8ish dead key.
Should I go ahead and do the variable power? Do I really need a transistor or can I just route through a trimmer or pot?
