I'm looking for test and alignment points for a JC Penney 6241. I have searched these forums and found very little information. Also if anyone knows, What is the purpose of the "pilot light" inside this radio? Thanks in advance for any help.
For anyone else looking, Here's the info I have...

Hello, I have been searching the forums for alignment procedures for the Uniden 980 and haven't found anything. What I need is the PLL alignment points and procedures for this radio. Here is what I figured out for the OSC, I will list it below.
Set radio to channel 20
USB OSC - Connect Freq...
I've always wanted one of these radios despite all the bed rep and I finally bought one for $100! The guy I bought it from said it had an intermittent power issue. I bought it thinking it probably only needed the RF driver mosfet. Sure enough, I ordered a new transistor and installed it. Radio...
Just out of curiosity, should I only be seeing 7.5 volts at the meter lights? They seem pretty dim. As far as I can tell that circuit started out from a 15v source.
Scratch that, it's the voltage drop across the light bulbs in series, it's 15 volts into the first lamp but 7.5 out.
the resistors around Q312 & Q313 test as follows
R400 & 401 = 10v in and 1.044v out
R397 & R398 = 11.24v in and 137.3mv out
R399 = 11.24v in and 9.9v out
397 & 398 are supposed to be 1.5k ohms but they meter out at 43-47 ohms
I got the cover off it again. Testing the caps with a VTVM....
c371+ = 11.5v
c361+= 14.5v
also noticed that it looks like someone has been in here before, the brown wire that is connected to the insulated pin coming thru the box at the far right end looks like it has been broken an...
Is an RF probe necessary for testing anything in a radio circuit or just specific parts? I have 2 RF probes, one home made and one home made by a 3rd party and I'm not even sure if I am using/reading them right, they will give me different readings on the same test source. Should I not be...
I think I need to build myself one of those freq counter pre-amps if you have the schematic to share. I am not an electronics tech. I am an electrician by trade, I am just wanting to learn and work on my own equipment.
Ok thanks, I will check out c371 as soon as I get a chance. It looks like...
My counter is the 1805. I also picked up a Tektronix 2235 Oscilloscope and a Heath VTVM. I have a cobra 200GTL sitting on my bench that I need to replace the driver transistor in. I want to get this 2040 fixed for the receive alignment.
It was a fair price, altho the guy I bought it from either didn't know what he was doing with it or just flat out lied to me about it to sell it. But either way, I figure it's repairable. I picked it up along with the matching 1040 and a frequency counter for 3 bills.
Q312 tests as follows
E = 1.04v should be 12.3v
B = .135v should be 11.6v
C = 5mv should be 3mv
Q313 tests as follows
E = 1.04v should be 12.3v
B = .14v should be 11.6v
C = 5mv should be 3mv
Q310 tests as follows
G = 5mv should be 13mv
D = 11.7 should be 11.8
S = .005mv should be 20mv
Q305...
Yes, that forum is disabled. I did test those 2 transistors with a DMM and found the voltages at the pins to be out of spec according to the service manual. There where also others, but I'm guessing they can't all be bad and there must be something else wrong in the circuit somewhere. I will...
I recently picked up a B&K 2040 signal generator and I'm looking for someone familiar with this test equipment. I have the service and operation manuals. I was going thru the alignment & testing procedure for this unit and I believe I found a problem.
With a 10 digit freq counter connected to...
I just found a place where I can supposedly buy a paper copy for $27 and have it mailed. But Somebody has to have a PDF version.
