Thinking of pulling the 148 out of the big truck and taking it along in the Econoline & Travel Trailer for vacation this summer. Would a Little Wil be an adequate antenna for this warmed up radio? The motivation towards the LW is that I can buy one with loyalty points from various truck stops...
Thinking of mounting a single antenna to the stainless bracket in the picture. The roof cap is fiberglass, the rotating beacon would come of, I would run a ground wire. Trailer is always a flat deck and load height rarely exceeds roof height.
Thanks, FLB
Ok, but how and when do I use the Voicelock and what exactly does it do? Does it select a frequency in between what the Chanel selector is able to do?
What is "freebanding" ?
OK thanks. But I'm still puzzled about the voicelock. Is it active on AM, am I actually able to select frequencies in
between say 27.595 and 27.605 for instance? I've been keeping it at full clockwise. So can I change a full Chanel by turning it full CCW to -10?
A little background for the sake of context: I bought this 148GTL in 1991, it was modified for extra channels and tuned. I barely used it and the Texas Star 350 for about a year and then favored my 29 because it fit better in the new truck. The 29 got sold with the truck, enter the 148. Ss...
Ok, thanks. But is it accurate, and more importantly, better than the meter on my Cobra? They are about $25 at the truck stops. My other choice is to wait until I get home and mail order one.
Any thoughts on which would be the best in the $25-50 range?
Im on the road and don't have easy access to purchase a meter. Truck stops however, gave an abundance of these meters. So my question is: are they reliable, accurate, how about the power meter function? Should I just wait till I get home and order one? If so, what brand?
Robb: thanks for that link! From what I read on his site, he actually sounds normal and secure in his ability. More than can be said for some other sites I looked at.
Well I did, just like the instructions said, but SWR went up, so I left it off. Again, I'm only using the meter in the radio, but SWR is at 1:1, maybe 1:2.
So where exactly are these "good techs" that are recommended that I take my radio to? It seems that those on the interweb are all trashing each other. How ironic that I'm asking faceless, anonymous people on the web to recommend faceless anonymous vendors!
I have in the past exclusively gone to Canyon Radio on Canyonville OR, but he appears to no longer be around. I'm kind of at a loss as to where to go now.
I spend a lot of time on I-90,Seattle to Billings and I-95, Billings to Gary IN. Also the entire length of I-5. Any recommendations on those...
Just a single antenna. 18' of pre packaged Wilson Coax. Mounted on the stock Freightliner driver side mirror mount. It's on a Mid Roof XT Columbia. The mount is at 102" so with the 5' antenna it's right at 13'6". I don't know what power the radio makes, I bought it from Canyon Radio in...
Wow! Apparently I already have a radioactive radio and didn't need to buy one from that guy with the website. LOL. Thanks guys! Seriously, I was ready to order a General Lee. Guess I won't now.
