Hey bootymonster, good info on the coax. Although,:confused1: I just cant understand how to calculate the half wave, full wave, thing for 11 meters or any meter. LOL
And audio, ive heard the antenna suggestion more than once, wilson 5k must be a good one. I just dislike magmount antennas...
I run a magnum s45hp radio ( turned down to 2Wdk and 35Wpep) with 6' rg8x to the dx500v,gives me (80Wdk and 400Wpep)and 12' of rg8x to the antenna, roadtech open coil, mounted on pass side about 8'' from cab and the bottom of the coil is about 3' below the cab.
EVERYTHING is grounded...
Thx for the info. I think ill stick with my dx500v,Im having hard enuf time with swr's now.
And if the other 2 dont do 1200 or 1600 watts, it is, a waste of money. I do
keep the radio @2.5dk and 30w pep and the 500 does fine.
Wavrider that makes good sense. That's what I was coming up with, but wanted to double check. How would the 12 or 16 need to be connected to the batts?
If you had an am radio instead of a suppressed carrier double sideband radio,
The radio as far as i know, IS a single side band radio.
And why the watts so low for a 1200 (480)? I get that from a dx500v.
This radio will DK and swing the numbers you mentioned.
3 PART QUESTION USING....
Omegaforce radio,(w/rfx75) has a variable of 1-18w dk, and 0-104w pep!
Usually set at 1.5W dk swingin 40W pep
1.. Which would be the better amp for the radio, 1200 or 1600? My vehicle is Cummins Diesel with 130 amp alt, so already have 2 batts.
2... How...
Thanks ill try moving the antenna and do. More grounding. May go with wilson 5000 or go with another antenna anyhow if I get bigger amp.
Would a ts 1200 or 1600 handle the 80~100pep from this radio
Radio >>>> Coax>>>> amp>>>>coax>>> SWR meter>>>> Coax>>> antenna.
That is exactly how i got everything, and i do recalibrate swr meter for each power setting, ( 1.Radio alone, 2. amp on mid power, 3. amp at high power).
Amp came from COPPER and they converted it.
Sounds like...
I have a #8 ground wire from the frame to the antenna bracket (2" x 4" x3/16")
I have a #8 ground wire from the amp under the rear seat, to the seat bracket bolt into the floorboard.
Thx for everyones input! Ive heard that the transistors cause harmonics inside the case of a texas star, thats why the swr goes up when its on. Any truth to that? I will move the antenna around.
And how can i check the antenna output connector on the amp and radio to see if they are indeed...
I now have a truck stop roadtech coil antenna in this location. The swrs are 1.3 with just the radio ,but turn on the dx500v and swrs go over 3! Some say use a MFJ meter and let it go, some say use the radio, and let it go. And others say tune it with amp on.
No matter where I mount the...
Getting an antenna this weekend, which performs (is the better) antenna?
Ive never owned either and only running an Omegaforce s45hp and a dx500v ( for now) maybe a sweet16 later.
It will be mounted about 8-9" away from the cab, on the passenger side bed.
Does anyone know if the echo TRBX3 or even TRBX2, can be wired to the AM selctor knob, so it ONLY OPERATES when in AM mode?
Is the selector knob at the AM position hot or ground?
Well, i got 1,And what a REGRET. With the tg mod off it puts 50w out , ok for the dx500 but dont like the 10khz channels (sucks for ssb) echo has to readjust every time u go fron am ssb then back to am . More of a hassle for mobile use. WISH i`de gotten another 2950.
