Here are some better pictures, so for the time being I’m not really worried about the low pass filter as it’s not a necessity and it’s not why the amp isn’t working.
OK things are starting to make sense, figures why I have never heard of a low pass filter when it comes to building an amp I had no clue it was an external thing, my only previous experience with low pass filter’s comes from the car audio world. Looks like I have a good bit of stuff to...
Got it, thanks for putting stuff in
Is there anyway to test the pills while they’re in the amp without any special tooling? Is there anyway to do a pulmonary check with a multimeter to see if they’re absolutely fried or not before using one of those pill testers tools ? I’m starting to think...
I am definitely going to look into a low, pass filter and look up how to solder it into what’s currently on the board, as far as wattage goes I’m not super anal about getting a shit ton of wattage out of this thing. I just know it is not working correctly, when my two pill swings just as much...
I don’t have the tools to check current draw all I can say is when I was driving it with the 2 pill it would do 120w on my dosy and if I brought the rpm’s up on my truck it would push around 150w with the revs, as far as the relay I’m not sure what you mean? In AM when I key down the relay...
Yeah, I know the 980 SSB only does 4w dead key, once I can get this amp working I’ll be in the market Stryker 955, I was driving it with a silver eagle 200 that looks to have been repilled with hg1446s, the little too pill does great I can throttle it at 50 W output if I don’t wire it straight...
Yea I actually texted him because he is local to me, he said I can bring it back to him and have him hook it up to his bench to show it works, I was told it did 500w on 13.4 volts. Not sure if I’m gonna bring it back to him to look at, want to avoid any arguments
Currently at work will be home around four and we’ll get some better pictures uploaded, also going to see if I can’t float that circuit real quick and hook everything back up and give her a test run
I know I can solder the components in and pull out the bad ones, I just keep hitting roadblocks in terminologies. I understand voltage amperage ohms law and resistance as I use them at work when working on CAN BUS networks in big diesel trucks, I have been watching a lot of BBI videos and hear...
Yep will do. I might have time when I get home from work today, the guy I bought it from said it was working so like I said, I’m hoping it’s just a bad capacitor on one of the transformers, hoping that I didn’t accidentally arc anything when I was installing it in my truck. I will keep this...
Thank you I really appreciate the explanation, this will be my first time touching one of these things, once my capacitor tester comes in the mail I’ll float that circuit, on one of the heat sink fins it almost looks like something arced out and melted the aluminum a bit, if this is the case is...
When you say the input is shorted through are you talking about the shielding on the coax making connection with the center element of the coax in the solder joint just to the left of what you have. Only thing I’d be able to do is replace components like caps and resistors, I can’t tell you what...
I'm going to test the input tune and output tune caps as well as the caps on the transformers, I saw in a bbi video that might be the problem. just ordered a pf meter if there bad I will replace them, The heatsink also got pretty hot so I'll use a temp gun on the pills to see if there getting...
I have been wanting to get into building them but its a bit of a learning curve for me. The "info" that is considered super basic to most doesn't get covered in videos a lot so Iv found myself guessing as to how certain components work or what purpose they serve in a circuit, I feel I don't...
well thanks for the advice, I emailed MR BBI to see what he would do with it
I did get some contacts with it people said it sounded alright but the receive through the amp kinda sucked, muffled everyone out
Is it worth sending this to an amp builder and have them turn it back into an 8 pill and add the ssb bias and the other essentials that appear to be missing? could you give me a ballpark of what that might cost just so I have an idea if this thing is a paperweight or not?
