Hello Hawkeye,
I will defiantly look you up. I am in Tennessee, so it shouldn't be to hard
to hook up.
I use the numbers 833. The same tube numbers in a Gate Transmitter!
I disconnected that other swing mod with the diode connected to the 5.6k resistor. The swing does look...
Now I know why you call yourself Hawkeye!
You surely have an eye for finding things. I can see myself not seeing that diode on the regulator I suppose. But I surely should had seen the diode tied to the 5.6k resistor.
I am just not familiar with these mods. I am very old school...
Hawkeye,
Wow, you just made my day! I have been looking to undo any mods.
So when you pointed out that diode, I thought to myself, I am going to remove it just to see what will become of the radio. Well low and behold, when I turn up the RF potentiometer, the mod meter shows an easy...
Good Day Hawkeye,
Okay, I replaced D83, I turned the Saturn back on. I keyed up and had no Modulation. I place the radio into SSB and I had audio. So I looked at VR14 and I saw where I left the pot all the way to the left (counter clockwise). So of course I turned it all the way to the...
Again Thank You Hawkeye.
I found TR53 along with C133 on the board and on the schematic. They both seem to be intact on the board. I still need to replace D83. I did find D83 on the schematic and where it showed 1N60 AM.
Would you happen to know the value of VR14. I am editing...
Wow! This will give me something to chew on. I will look the board over and see what I can find.
I forget what transistor that I had found cut early on, and I did replace it. I just peaked in on the board, and it was TR32 near the 8 pin audio chip toward the front right side.
There is a...
Thank you Nomadradio and Hawkeye351 for your reply.
I only had a 2 watt 1 ohm resistor. So I installed it anyway and had no joy.
All three diodes that attached to the driver and the finals all tested the same, showing a path only in one direction.
So I ordered some 1 ohm resistors at a...
Hello Hawkeye351,
Thank you for the reply. I will continue to look over your helpful information and
study it to the best that I can understand, thank you.
The growling noise has been fixed along with plenty of transmit audio. The audio issue was the result of TR42, 2SC945, which looks to be...
Hello all,
Well I don't know if anyone is up to helping with this radio again!
I finally replaced the final and the driver trimmers. I am now able to adjust
the driver (VR 11) bios to 20Ma. As for VR10 (50MA) one of the finals I am not able to adjust after replacing the trimmer pot. VR20...
Hello,
I am sorry I have not been back for some time. I have been probing around on the Saturn and had discover TR42 was actually opened. Its a 2sc945.
I removed the bad one and popped in a new one and just like that the audio was back up and running loud.
The strange thing that...
Hello Xracerx13,
Wow! You just taught me something that I have never come across. As I had mentioned, I have never had to replace these and so I never really paid any of attention to their actual values or how to verify them.
Sorry its been a while since I have checked in. There has been a...
Thank you Xracerx13,
I have never had to replace these, not even once, so I really had no idea accept
maybe to take them out of the circuit and ohm them out.
Now with that being said, these variables here are the metal ones. What I do see is the number 101 engraved into them for the final...
Hello,
Thank you again Xracer13, and of course thank you to all who have been helping, not only with this particular subject but also with my other subject pertaining the same radio in another Post.
I now have quite a bit of parts but I am still in the process of trying to order more.
I...
Hello Cable Guy,
I have been away from my bench PC, and for some reason I cannot login from my cell phone. I have been creating a list of parts. Hopefully I will be able to hunt down all of them.
Thank you for the idea of getting them from Klondikemike, I will look into this for sure.
You...
Hello Xracer13,
This will be a big help, as I really didn't know where to turn. Funny though, I have been to this site from time to time, but I wasn't searching for anything in particular. And it had been a long time, so I had totally forgotten about it.
Thanks a bunch for the link. The...
Hello Cable Guy,
Yeah I really don't know at this point, but I was the cause.
I say this because I was trying to key an external box that needed a PTT to RCA
in order to key the box. I was just testing the radio and decided to key the box by just grounding out the RCA to bring in the relay...
Hello Nomadradio,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. As mentioned in my previous post...
"I have been studying the the schematic, and making a Shot Gun Parts list for now." And to have them on hand.
I am hoping this gets figured out with what's causing the low audio so to learn...
Hello cable Guy,
Yeah camber/caster is for the shop that has the alignment equipment. But Hey, if it drives like a new one, you must had gotten pretty darn close! Good Job.
Yes, I wired the mic audio to pin 1, mic ground, and mic ground to mic audio, reversing the wires on the radio mic...
Hello Xracer13,
Thank you for the link, and yes I already have it. But maybe someone who may come on here, may not, so thank you for the link just the same.
All the best,
RF Krazy
Well the ohm meter is showing 10 meg ohms between pin 1 mic ground and chassie ground when powered on. With the power turned off, the meter doesn't show any ohms at all.
It seems to me there is something shorted to ground along the mic circuit bringing the audio down.
I am not sure what...
