I found the problem. I had a ground wire hooked up wrong. It was pulling the voltage down. Thanks again for all your help. I got it working.

Ok guys one more question, how can I take the 13.8v in my radio and drop it to a consistent 6v. I’ve tried the 6.2v zenen diode with a 1k 1watt resistor. Which gave me my 6v but when I try to use the recorder, the volts seem to drop almost 4v. Please let me know. Thanks

First thanks for all your help. I got the radio up and running. Radio checks says radio and audio sounds good but after checking radio over I noticed the back of the radio is getting hot. Near the plug area. What could be causing this? Please let me know what you all think. Thanks again
