    galaxy 959

I have one of the early MosFet versions, had it tuned by DTB Radio in Carlilse and it has performed flawlessly for several years now. Other than its just not me, I have no issues with the radio (currently sitting on a shelf). I think you will be hard pressed to find a older final model as...

    NEW CONNEX 4600 TURBO

I thought they were a "4400T" now, they dropped the 4600 completely? Pretty sure what they considered equivalent to the old 4600 is now a MosFet. I liked my 4600T, wish I would have know about DTB when I owned it; I would probably still have it.

    NEW CONNEX 4600 TURBO

They are MosFets now, aren't they?

    Amp or Export?

I have a four mosfet General HP40W, that has a hi/lo capability. Does about 40 watts or so on low and around 100 watts or so on high. Nothing fancy needed for the install other than the radio's power lead.

And the Darwin award goes to........

I've seen some downright scary wiring since I've been into the hobby...often wonder how they don't burn their truck to the ground.

    Lipzipper amplifiers

If they are being built by the same guy, he also built the "Anaconda" line of amps sold out of Florida a few years back...they are a class C, well built. And he does do a pretty decent job tuning them considering they are a class C.

    Wilson 5000 magnet mount problem

I was going to say keying relay too...I had a new custom built comp amp that had a bad keying relay, and it did exactly as you described.

    General HP40W

Just as a followup...this thing must sound good. Every time I key up, I get asked "what kind of radio is that, it sounds good", it doesn't matter where I'm at, I always get asked that. So far, nothing detrimental to the truck. Even though its only running about 7/30 and 25/100, it seems...

Galaxy DX-959;A State of Tune:Kitten legal or alligator on the loose?

I could care less what it does, I don't have the equipment (nor do I want the equipment) to look at it. DTB knows more about radios than I do, I simply told him to set it up to do what it should do...he understands I'm not into the "every last watt" crowd, and set up a radio accordingly. As...

Galaxy DX-959;A State of Tune:Kitten legal or alligator on the loose?

If you sent it to DTB, it will be right when you get it back...he set up my DX959, its been flawless. While its not my favorite radio, (because of the radio design, not performance), it gets good reports. As was eluded to, while the DX959 can "do much more", its getting out of its sweet spot.

Want to set up a CB base with limited funds

I pieced together my own base at one point...a used $50 radio (Uniden Grant), a used 15A power supply for $20, a home-made 102" Dipole (less than $60 for all the parts), and about $75 in coax... With that simple antenna mounted horizontal, I could talk skip with my battery-powered handheld...

    Now what?

I think he just moved, so I'm not sure at this point...you can look him up on his website, he does respond to emails. CB Radio - DTB Radio's Front Page Make sure you go to him, and not one of the other shops at Carlisle...there are several, he is the only good one. FWIW, he's the only radio...

    Now what?

If he is coming through PA, DTB Radio is a whole lot closer than Bob's...right off I81 in Carlisle.

    Wilson 5K roofmount,wimpy coax!

Its easy enough to solder a new piece of coax onto the roof mount. I pulled my roof mount from one install to put into another car, simply bought a pre-made piece of coax, snipped one end off and soldered it onto the mount. I have ran a 2-pill, 1x2, 4-pill, an old beat and tired 6-pill, and...
