Well I just conducted real live testing. Lower sideband channel 38, 27.3850 with the Francis 5 foot five antenna. I was able to talk from Texas to Oklahoma Michigan Nevada Ohio South Carolina and everybody said it was crystal clear. I’ll deal with the 1.7:1. The power output of the radio...
I have gone through and re-read all of the links that you guys have sent me conducted all of the tests and everything comes out good. The only thing that I could be thinking and you guys said it’s not is the coax length. The 5 foot five Francis antenna lowers the SWR. Might remove everything and...
Ok. Metered everything again. 102 whip 2:0. 5’5 Francis 1.7:1. Solid ground. I scrape the paint drilled and tapped the whole stainless steel bolt grounding strap instead of wire. Metered everything coax antenna mount everything meters perfectly fine.
Bed is steel. I agree. I’m not in a rush I want it done right. Not half assed. I have gained patience. Worked outside in the Texas heat for 12 hours so I’m not touching it today. Yes I will get some pics tomorrow. Mount arrives tomorrow. Canceled coax order. Coax tested good.
REALLY APPRECIATE...
Getting rid of the quick disconnect and going to a solid stud. The mount I have now has a poor 2 piece insulation. Ohmed mount and if it’s to tight it showed 9.990 ohms in the 20k scale. Loosen mount short goes away. Antenna to truck 9.90 ohms. So there is a short.
Ok. Going to ohm everything again today. New mount comes in Friday. I don’t want to throw parts at it. I want to figure it out. I’ll keep the coax in place.
Could it be the location? I know it’s not the most ideal place. I’ll get it. Something tells me it’s the mount.
After digging and doing more research. Coax cable that I have is too long in length. The other coax cable that I used was too short. I found the formula to correctly measure length of coax which takes into account the velocity factor. I have 30 feet of LMR 400 and the new cable that was ordered...
Tested with ohm meter. antenna to ground, coax center pin to ground, collar to ground. Tested coax. Everything tested good. Radio shows 2 and meter shows 2.2. Gave meter back to friend. Don’t know brand. Ran another coax. 15 foot lmr240 same exact readings.
No spring but the mount is the same length as the spring. used ground strap. I’ll look at that link now.
I was really hoping that it was not the location because I cannot wait to get rid of that magnet mount
I’ll start by stating what I have
2015 Dodge Ram crew cab
Stryker 955 hpc
Upgraded power cord straight to battery
Breedlove stake hole mount
mounted in stake Hole drivers side by tailgate.
LMR400 coax
102” whip
Swr 2.0 :1 channel 20. 27.205
stryker A10 mag mount 1:1
swr is 2.0 no matter...
