So I have a 50' length of RG8U ran from my Sirio Tornado to the back of my radio. Can I use this MFJ to tune my antenna by unhooking coax off my radio and hooking it directly to my coax or will it show false readings since coax is not electronically correct length?
Like this. This is with RG8x with velocity factor of .82 Tuning for middle Freq of 11 meter.
Cut a piece of coax using this formula for making a 1/2 wave tuned coax jumper. 492 x VF of coax, divided by frequency. So for 27.205 we use 492 x .82 / 27.205 which = 14.82ft.
Where can I get a 1/2 wave electrical pre cut coax with ends already on it? I need one to run with my MFJ259 analyzer to tune antennas. I guess it don't really matter what kind as long as its good coax. Used for tuning antennas only. Not going to be running it on a radio. Thanks
I got this thing set at 41.5" when I put it up. Chart shows for 27.185 CH19 11 meter set it at 41.73". For 27.0Mhz says 44.09". For 27.5Mhz says 37.6" So I say 2 1/2 to 3" and it should be good. Makes since to me looking at the chart anyway.
I actually got a friend sending me his old MFJ 259. He got a new one and said I could have his old one. Maybe this weekend I can get this resolved. I will try the 3" and see what happens when I get help. I've never used a Analyzer before. I'm excited about getting it.
Oh Ill get it 222. When I got someone here to help clamp it to the pole it will be easy. I can take it down and lower the top section easy but trying to hold it up to the pole and put the clamp on with the other hand is hard to do by myself. That thing swaying around in the air and trying to...
I just thought of something else. If I grounded the mast would that help any? There is about a 4' old pipe pounded in the ground its setting over on the ground to hold the bottom but I wouldn't consider that grounded.
Ok changed it again with same results. Took out the choke and put it right at 20' dead on and my SWR is same 1.2 and 1.4. Sorry for so much changing just trying out different things. I'm leaving it there because my pole is more stable then raising it all the way up. Radials are 7'11 above the...
Ok I had to lower the antenna it is now 17'8' off the ground and just over 5' above my roof. I added the choke and now the SWR is 1.2 Ch1 1.4 Ch40 I added a pic also of the choke.
Dallas you mean roll up some coax below the antenna? Like how many laps? I probably only have about 6' of coax to spare without lowering the antenna some.
I will do some tree pruning tomorrow and see if it helps any. I'm also gonna try and get that tower. The wife is the main problem on the tower HAHA. She hates my antennas.
Yea I figure it probably is. Someone gave me a nice 50' Stand alone tower. A guy said he would charge $100 only to take it down and put it up at my place. I need to get it done. Then I will need new coax and all. And yes them trees are close. I could take a couple limbs off the one but dunno if...
Yea its 50 ohm coax. I was meaning the half wave length stuff by the mismatch. Rg8u 2yrs old with new amphenol ends today. I would like to tune it with a analyzer. Drives me crazy to see it go to 1.5 swr when on upper channels. Just OCD I guess.
