This will most likely be what I do later... itd be interesting to have two identical dipoles mounted in opposite directions just to see if there is any change. Eventually id like to go the route Robb mentiomed and put up a vertical. Id like to have the ability to talk locally at some point...
Yeah ive thought about doing this, but it would be a lot harder to find somewhere to mount it that would be as high up.
I think ill keep trying it how it is, then when the weather is a bit more favorable out i will climb the 25ft up into the cedar and move the leg to a different tree to see how...
Just for some background, My dipole has a balun, coax basically drops down at 90 degrees and runs straight into the shack. It is at about 20-25ft above ground so that is slightly higher than a 1/2 wavelength.
This evening after the
New England skip started to fade out and i was hearing all over...
I'm experimenting with a 1/2 wave dipole that I have mounted about 25ft up running slightly Southeast-Northwest. I've had the antenna up for about a week and a half now. I can hear quite a bit of skip from around the country, but the only contacts I have made are in New England. Rhode Island...
A dipole in your attic.
No big outdoor vertical is going to withstand that kind of punishment... unless you can build a wind barrier around it. Something to divert the wind.
I'm a big fan of the idea that less is more in radio. I want to work the world on 100w or less, bit thats just me... the less power I have to use, the more excited i am to make the DX contact.
Keep your 2 pill and invest in one kick ass antenna system.
Yeah i sure am excited to try mine out. The only thing thats been done to the used mk3 i ordered is expanded frequency coverage for 11 meters and an alignment by DTBradios. No power mods or anything. If you order from yeticom they will send you either a 10/12 rig, or an 11m rig, they told me...
Yeah but these yeticoms selling for cheaper on ebay are just suppliers who are buying them from the factory wholesale, so they get a huge break on shipping costs, thus passing the savings on to the buyer. These arent hacked radios if they are going as New on ebay, they should still be under...
I almost bought one until i found a good deal here on the forum (the seller also got his from ebay). Id take my chance with it, great price. Otherwise if youre ordering from yeticom, you can expect to pay 100$ more with shipping... $340 was the quote they gave me.
Man, DXing is easy with this dipole and my 959, I am talking all over new england with it. It is very directional however, i am yet to make a contact outside of the Northeast, we will see what conditions continue to yield. Chances are if you jump on 27.385 and youre in New England, i will hear...
The rg8 mini im using seems to be working fine for now. Was about 50 cents per foot, does the job.
I had a question about hooking the radio up to my power supply. Do i need to get some stamped end connectors for the ends of my power cord? Or is that just optional? Right now o just have about...
Just made my first qso on the dipole, 745 Rhode Island. Nice!
the galaxy 959 is working better indoors in my basement where it doesnt get as cold as my truck.
Gotta start a log book to keep on my desk.
Cant wait to watch them pile up with my new Optima Mk3 thats on its way!
Unit sold! Mroneeyedboh made me a great deal on his Mk3, external speaker, and kenwood clone microphone, kept it under my budget. I am so excited i cant stand it.
Yeah thats what i think. When reading on the yeticom site i noticed they can send 2 differwnt versions. One is for 11m only, the other is 10 and 12 meters. So it depends how its set up. He is probably just selling it how it came new from the supplier.
Me and mroneeyed may be working out a deal...
I messaged coldfrontsales about that radio and he said ot has the new mic but it only works on 10 and 12 meters... i sent yeticom an email last night asking if i could get one ready to go for 11 meters, said shipping was like $65! Forget that. Thatd be a $350 radio, 100 more than what most...
How the heck do you order one of these? Just tried to buy one off of the yeticom website but cant figure out how? I dont know if i trust the ebay dealers, ive read bad things.
Yeah i pretty much just cant wait any longer to get a nice radio, ill ne ordering the yeticom Optima Mk3 unless someone can convince me otherwise. Seems to be the best in this price range
Alright so ive pretty much decided to go with the MK3, literally havent read one bad thing about it. If i can get one ready to go on 11 meters ill be ready to buy after the holidays.
