Well it's always something it seems like. I got a brand new 959b and everything worked, but didn't swing as much as other 959s. Anyway now I have no modulation, I still have a good carrier but no swing. Sideband is weak also. Turning the AMC inside radio does nothing, mic gain is up, tried a new...
I'm thinking d8 exploded before it got to the transformer. everything is working good now swinging 35 watts. i did have the AMC wide open swing 45 watts when I had the catastrophic failure.
Yeah normally I have the radio on and the power supply on and I ram the plug in the back of the radio. that might be it thanks. the first thing to check when fuses keep blowing is protection diode, so I pulled out d23 and it checked out fine but I had a new one so I figured why not. the cap I...
The strange thing is I didn't hook the power up backwards. I have used the same power supply for months. yes I accidentally put a 25 amp fuse in, it happens. d8 was the only toasted componets. I just changed out d23 and the cap for good measure. Radio must have taken a power surge or the final...
Yes yes I am a dumbass and didn't have an element in the bird 43p watt meter and keyed the mic. what happened was d8 in a cobra 29 smoked out. I ended up replacing d8 d24, 1000 uf cap and still blew fuses. so I replaced stock final and all is good. so obviously no element in bird 43p watt meter...
I had a RadioShack meter and it read same as my dosy. average power yes, it will be pretty accurate but peak power won't even be close. Bird watts are true watts not happy watts like all the hobby meters.
Meters like dosy and a stick only read 70 percent of actual peak. I was always wondering why I would never see more then 15 watts on my dosy. Now I have bird 43p watt meter that shows 30 watts. Here is a good article https://www.bellscb.com/cb_radio_hobby/Newsletter/December_2010.htm
Yeah I got the program but I had a hard time figuring it out. The needle was really jumpy, I think the hp8640 I had at the time was a little off frequency which caused the needle to jump around. It took purchasing 3 different hp8640b signal generators till I finally got one where everything...
