I just showed up in the FCC database last night  But the test was the easy part, now i need a mobile rig lol.
I have a baofeng uv5r and i just got the tram mag mount dual band antenna off amazon and the adaptor cable so i can use it mobile for a little until i decide. My local...
I think i will actually do that. I just like the way the 949 looks more than the optima.
I'll try to pull it and toss it on ebay in the next day or 2 and buy the optima after i sell the 949.
Ok i did some fiddling with it today. I wanted to somwhat calibrat the rf meter and turn down the low end of AM and adjust the high end. Anyway, i noticed on ssb when i would key up there was a slight amount of RF showing on my 0-5w meter. So i just tweaked the VR6 "SSB Carrier Balance" a...
I put the cheap power meter i have on my radio. when on ssb and i key the needle jumps up about .25ish watts then drops back to zero. Im not sure if its a mic click causing that or if its something else.
i think im going to put a meter on it and see if either the mic is causing a problem when its keyed, or if maybe its putting out a slight amount of power when it is keyed up when it shouldnt be. i found a post in another forum where somone had this problem and they said it was actually...
alright, atleast i know its not me :)
I will see how it works now, if not i'll see if a friend of mine can play with it and come up with a fix. If so i'll post it up.
Ok, i went out and gave it a shot. If i timed the key up and talking right it worked. Its going to take some getting used to but i think i should be able to get it. i'm not even sure how much i will use ssb anywa, thus the reason for the dx949 and not somthing a little higher end.
Is there...
Alrigt thanks. I was just confused. I didn't think it was supposed to chatter like that. I thought when you keyed up in ssb the amp would be sitting in a idle state just as it does when its not keyed, then when you would talk it would actually engauge the relay.
Thanks for the help.
I have tried it with the radio set on the lowes rf power, and i have tried it with it set on the highest (using the variable output knob) It doesn't seam to make any difference, and it works fine on am with the power turned all the way back.
The rm specs for the amp Input power: 1-6 W AM/FM...
Here is what it is doing. This is speaking in a normal cb voice into the mic. Ch 38lsb, amp on ssb and mic gain wide open.
chatter relay kl503 ssb - YouTube
I understand that. the problem is when its a dead key the relay isn't open, it bounces between open and closed non stop until i let of the key. You can hear the relay chattering and watch the TX light on the amp flicker along with it. I wouldn't think they are supposed to do that as i'm sure its...
So the relay is supposed to chatter when i have the radio keyed on ssb when i'm not talking?
I understand there is no carrier, i just didn't think the relay was supposed to be chattering when its just sitting there idle with a key and me not talking.
Alright, I'm a compete newb when it comes to ssb and i have never talked using it. So excuse the cheaper radio and amp. The 503 and the 949 is working fine or appears to be on the am side. But with the amp set to ssb and on 38lsb on when i key up the relay just chatters on the amp and the swr...
another update. I hooked the swr meter to it. If on am it won't even move for me to calibrate it? i'm a little confused with that. But on ssb if i key up and talk, the meter does move. So there is still somthing going on with the am side? I tried 2 different swr meters and they both did the...
Update.
I pulled the front panel and everything off to access the board and switches. Figuring since the volumn knob is scracthy when i turn it that the mic gain was probbaly also based on the original video with it being scratchy when i was counting and turning the knob, i pulled the mic...
It does have the 858. It has the old analog clock that doesn't work and the numbers can't be read as it looks like a gasket of some kind has fell over the numbers, the meters don't work, the volume is scratchy, the tone knob post is bent, the board is full of dust from where it fell down into...
Yup on am. The madison is the only SSB radio i have, so i'm stuck on testing with AM.
The mic works fine on my cobra 29 I have talked to a few with that radio and mic and it was reported as being fine.
I'm guessing it was a modulation problem, but i wasn't sure. I looked around on it and...
