crap. ok. I have a cobra power mic i rewired to 4 pin from 5 that acted funny on the model 19. Should i give it a shot on the madison?
EDIT.
Just for learning sake, what is the difference? i did have a rf limited mic on the model 19 and it worked fine?
ok so it is the supermag. How do they compare to the a99, penetrator and the other antenna's of today?
It is free, or i should say was free. I already have it and am having issues, thats why i posted it to identify it. I put it up thursday, used the cobra 29 to check the swr got it to about...
Hello, I was told by the guy who gave this to me this is a hy gain penetrator from the 70's. But all the pics i can find of them don't look like this?
Sorry its a little far off, but thats the best i have now. I would like to tear it apart and rebuild it but i want to make sure i have the...
I just checked the swr again 5 hours later. Instead of being just a little passed 3, its now fluctuates between the calibration line and just a little before. There is deff. an issue going on there somwhere with the antenna. Its a little breezy today and if i'm trying to calibrate or check the...
No the mic that i tried on the both the 29 and the madison is off of my 19. The 19 and its mic both work because i talked to my neighbor on that mic and 19 out of my truck. So i pulled the mic from the 19 and used it and just hooked up the midland that i have laying around and was using that...
Thanks, it looks like there is something going on with the cobra 29 and the madison. Neither one has any "sound" on the recieving radio when it is keyed up. You can hear it transmit but whatever is spoken into the mic is not carried. By the looks of it, they both have been apart as the screws...
So do you need a frequency counter made just for cb's or can you use a scope? Or is it more than that. I have a good friend that is super into electronics he just has never really messed with 2way stuff before. But he has scopes, logic analyzers and so on and can/has designed his own PCBs...
Great, i can't wait to get it tuned into a resonable SWR and give it a try. Mine is on the first story roof and ontop of a 9 or 12' pole. So that puts it around 20-25 feet plus the hight of the antenna. The radials are just a few inches above the peak of the 2nd story roof.
try this first. then try tuning the antenna. the recieve in radio may need tuned
but they are a quiet reciever
The 29's mic doesn't work either. That is what was giving me the problems. I had swapped between the midland and the 29 on the madison. So the mic that does work (midland) isn't...
cobra ca-76
So following that link to the cbtricks page it says it can be rewired to work following this?
Cobra CA Series
1- Shield & Black
2- Red
3- White
4- Blue
You were right, I pulled the mic from my truck, tossed it onto the madison, and when i key up i can hear the relay click and the TX light come one. Now the meters are stuck, and being that i only have one mic i can't do any test to see how the sound is from my truck to the base and the other...
Ok i will be able to tinker with it today but it won't be until later tonight. Right now with the mic that was hooked up to it (midland) When i key up There is a small click in the external speaker but it continues to produce sound. No TX light, No carrier/audio. Its just like you haven't even...
alright, thanks.
I'll have to pull it apart and see if i can dig up the schematic. I want to see if the board is full of corrosion. If it is it will probably just be a chasing one problem to the next.
Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum, and new to the world of CB's and working on them. I have spent alot of time when i was way younger listening to the locals at night before i went to bed and have always been interested in tinkering. I would like to get my HAM lic. and figured the cb...
