Oh Robb, you would make me do some major reading ;) Ive already got the sickness when it comes to "more power" and bigger and better Antennas. Im afraid if I get any crazier, my shack may become my bedroom because the wife is getting a bit irritated lol!
Back in my early days of CB use, I always ran with dual whips on the back of my jeep. I never understood the concept of wavelength and modulation and SWR. I simply hooked up the whips...connected them to the Jeep and turned the radio on!
Now that I understand having to tune in SWR, and how...
Thanks alot guys. Between this thread and inbox messages ive been given a ton of information regarding this and as I continue to study this scope and how to properly use it all of this is great help!
Alright so I finally have 3 scopes in my shop. I know some basics on how to use them in basic electronic settings but have never been taught how to use one with a CB. I know you can look at your modulation and output signals through these.
Since this has been my go to place for learning the...
Im currently running an Imax 2000 and have it on top of a telescoping tower. Tip of the antenna is 64' up in the air. Running Full Power RG-8 cable throughout the whole setup. I have been looking at some beams in place of the Imax and actually have a good deal I could grab at anytime on a Maco...
I was recently going through the lists of various mods available for these radios. After reading the details on this one I was a bit intrigued. I have an antenna that is sitting 64' at the tip but I live in a mining town in Northern Minnesota.....the land here is all Iron and Im about 100-200...
The BRAND new bought still in box with untouched plastic 959 that I have been working on recently also had 1n5711 in the D1-2 and D30-31 spots. Few other spots as well. MANF Date of 12/12. A few other spots have the 1nf711 as well.
I found this step by step guide. Maybe someone searching for this subject will be able to find this useful. I plan on performing this on a 959 and 949 in the coming weeks. Waiting on parts!

Yea thanks Robb. I actually ended up taking a couple pieces of thing speaker wire that were attached to each other and Tinning the ends for quick easy tap soldering it any small spot. Then just kept the leads surrounded and separated from each other and moved the quick solder around to each...
how do you guys go about measuring the voltages on the 520s? Where do use stick the negative prod on the meter to get the most accurate reading? Anywhere ground or somewhere specific?
Yes i did pull it and used trans tester to confirm it was shot just a moment ago. I do not have another one of these laying around unfortunately. Gonna have to order one but gonna go with the upgraded one suggested in the mods.
Q55 On AM Keying down for TX
B: 11.9
C: 11.6
E: 12.6
So both Q54 and Q55 have really high voltages going to them on Transmit ....what would be the cause of this? Is there something else somewhere that could be causing the voltages to be so high other then then VR being bad?
Yea no chance at all of dropped solder. Again it was working for quite awhile after the modification and only went haywire after trying to up voltages with Vr17 and the Bias slightly with VR10 and VR12. Was transmitting and we noticed the power on the meter drop to zero...smelled it and found...
This Dx959 is actually using a EPT069611A board. It is stock with Dual 520s in the Final and Driver Position. The Voltage regulator is a 2sb827-0 and registering:
AM No Transmit:
Looking at the regulator with it standing in front of you Left Pin: 12.9 Center: 12.9 Right 13.5
AM Transmit...
Alright, well yesterday I undertook a mission to install some extra channels in this here DX959. All went well with the Double SPST switches and the P5 and P6 wires. Everything was fine and started to put it back together.
Buddy was sitting here and ya know how two guys get when they start...
