    President HR2510 troubles!

Yeah, I’ll be curious to hear what the problem is, & like you say, it may come in handy for someone with similar problems in the future! There nice radios & I hope you get yours up & running again! Take care, pioneer621

    President HR2510 troubles!

Hello, One of my HR2510’s gave me a similar problem with the radio turning on, but no display on the screen. I suspected bad capacitors as I already had to change other caps in some of my 2510’s & it seems to be common with the age of these things. The one that had this problem was the one...

NEW COBRA 29 LX LE - COMING SOON!

I like the looks of the radio. Would love to see one in person to see how the display looked up close, & some of the extra features sound cool. I think the display looks very nice, especially seeing large pics at cbtricks. Hopefully they do not have any problems with the display & it lasts a...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Loosecannon, This will likely continue to be a slow project for me as well. I started playing with the MOSFET in the radio probably two years ago & Shockwaves thread kind of got me playing with it again, but progress will probably continue off & on as I get time. I too will try to keep up on...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Playing with the resistor values may gain you a little more power; going from the 230K to the 330K may give you a watt or two, worth a shot playing with. As for the 1-MEG resistor; all that is for is biasing the MOSFET, & the value may need fine tuned to get you the proper voltage for your...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Actually I went ahead & replaced Q24 last night. I was sitting there looking at the radio while it was on the bench & figured I go ahead & change it out. Did you add the 33K resistor when you did the EKL mod? If so, try the mod without that resistor installed & see if it works.

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Here is how mine is currently wired & seems to be “in phase” in my GRANT XL like this. During some more testing I noticed it wanting to break up every so often again, so I added yet another 1000uf cap making it 2000uf & it has not done that since & the audio sounds fine, we will see if that...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

I had to get my flashlight out to take a look in there, but whoever worked on this radio before I got it, cut TR-24 (actually Q-24 in the GRANT XL). I have always meant to replace it, but never seem to get around to it, I just try to monitor my audio & make sure the MIC GAIN is set right when...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Loosecannon, I just like to experiment with this stuff & what ever values I used is probably what worked best at the time & what I had on hand, although I have so many old parts boards from various electronics I could have made the exact parts from the EKL sheet, & I know I probably did...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Shockwave, I am not sure the difference between the IRF520 & ERF2030 myself, I mostly use the IRF520, but have used the ERF2030 in the Cobra 29 radios & the performance was about the same between the two from my testing, but again, I am not sure the main differences. Yes, good idea...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Ok, just a little update as I was playing around with the transformer in my GRANT XL. Well, I put the transformer in as if I was putting it in a Cobra 29 as my diagram shows, starting out with a 470uf capacitor. With it wired like my diagram shows & how it is wired in a 29 it was distorted...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Sounds like loosecannon is making progress! I should mention that in my previous diagram (for whoever reads this thread & tries adding the audio transformer in there radio) that the SPEAKER & GROUND pins in my diagram of the audio transformer do not get connected when installing it in the...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Robb, It has been some time now since I installed the MOSFET in the GRANT XL, so I will have to go over it thoroughly to see what all I did, I think it was very similar to the MOSFET mod on the newer 148 or the ones that have the ERF2030 install sheet. I don’t remember off the top of my...

    MOSFET's and the 148GTL

Hello all, definitely an interesting topic! I don’t have a 148, but I have a GRANT XL I have fiddled with in the past, never really toyed with transformer idea though & it is interesting. In mine I just put a MOSFET final in changed a couple parts etc. & wired the final to run on 12 volts...

    Uniden Grant XL problem

Caspear1978, The one in mine also says: 6B K85 But the complete part number appears to be 3SK85 if your looking for a datasheet. Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in on that part you were referring to. I hope you get your radio going, the GRANT XL is a nice radio. Take care!

    Uniden Grant XL problem

loosecannon, Q71 is indeed in the UNIDEN GRANT XL, if your looking at the schematic for the Cobra 148 GTL it is labeled in that radio FET-1. In the GRANT XL (I checked mine too) it is a 3SK85 DUAL GATE MOSFET & appears to be in the IF section.
