Couldnt pick it by my ears. Anyway it got better with age, it drifted back 1 hertz the other way so now its only off by 3 hertz, close enough for me.
Got the krako ssb de luxe base back today from its 40 channel plus conversion, its drifted from cold to hot by 1.5 hertz, a bit better than the...
There is only one place left in in Oz to buy a decent antenna:
http://shockwaveantennas.com.au/
Ive had one of their 58 / .64 antennas for about 5 years, getting about 40-50km local coverage and daily 9+ to the east cost nsw / qld from here (kalgoorlie wa) using 12 watts. Mounted about 4...
That's about a 5 day drive from here, so won't be calling in there :D
Plenty on the Oz ebay site though.
Basic but working 40 channel ssb pearce simpson
Magnum radio working, over 50 watts out
Kenwood ham radio 100 watt working, looks like it covers 27 megs
If you are on more of a budget...
Adding to that, will be in the north shore area of sydney in a couple of weeks, start of december ish, if you are there can let you know whats around and roughly how much.
Where in Oz are you? There are a few locals here selling grants and cybernets and similar, and a few more on oz ebay too. Try searching for "ssb" on ebay.
We are at kalgoorlie boulder in wa. If you are near there can ask whats around.
Loz!
Tech said it was more likely to be temperature variation but in the end it was not worth losing sleep over because my old ears cant pick a 4 hertz error so we left it at that. Good enough for me.
Next radio currently being done is a kraco ssb de luxe base radio from 1976. Apparently it...
They said the drift was from the 10.240 crystal which is outside of the TCXO control. They offered to fix it but we declined as neither me or the others on the channel could pick it by ear. Moved on to my next radio now, 42 year old Kraco.
Just dropped a Kraco 23 channel base to tech in excellent physical condition but completely dead (no power getting through and a faint burned component smell from inside). Asked them to convert to at least 40 channels (oz call channel is 35 lsb so a 23 channel radio is useless down here) and...
Just got back from month long vacation road trip, 4 states with a 4wd and trailer through both desert and tropical areas of the country. The radio was measured again when we got back and it had drifted 4 hertz lower, so average one hertz a week.
On air most people said i was spot on freq, but...
Measurements of frequency with temperature:
-4Hz @ -10 degrees C (14 deg Fahrenheit) for 3 hours
+1 Hz @ +20 degrees C (68 deg Fahrenheit) for 3 hours
+7Hz @ 60 degrees C (140 deg Fahrenheit) for 3 hours
This was done in an environmental chamber and measured with a rubidium referenced Agilent...
Just got mine back from the doctors yesterday, they had it for a few months but it is now drift free, used it from cold and its bang on 12 o clock. Got pretty warm under the heater outlet in the car driving from Sydney to Coffs but everyone we spoke to on the way said perfectly on frequency...
Tried it on another PLL02A Cybernet, this time a mobile. Worked almost the same, covers about 15 channels with good signal strength before dropping away quickly beyond that. Will try it on a Cobra 148 when we get one. Any idea what the equivalent of PLL02A pin 6 is on the MB8734 chip used in...
Something not right with this listing

The mod in the sheet I posted earlier does about 15 channels, so that means each one is just under a watt (we are talking SSB here, AM is not used on 27 megs in Oz). Put it through a KLB-240 200 watt amp which in theory would have bought each of the sidebands back up close to the original 12...
Resurrecting an old thread. Found this mod in an old GE A model we bought at a yard sale.
GE was rusted out dead beyond repair it had been in a wet garage for decades.
But built a new circuit as above and put it in a working cybernet base radio.
And it works real good, put radio on channel...
We had two of these radios a couple of years back, got one modified locally and kept the other one factory stock.
Nice modern looking radio, easy to fit into late model pickup. The modded radio covered 26.8 to 28.0 in 5K steps but ssb power started dropping at 27.8 and was down to 8 watts...

They said in an old post the supporters disk was actually a set of 4 dvdroms, which would put the download size somewhere between 14.1 and 18.8...
