Wow I noticed your signature and just checked my logbook. We made a good contact 4/2/23.......on 16L! Must have been part of our make 16lsb great again initiative lol. Pretty cool.
Just found this. No wonder I was scratching my head. I thought they had rx and tx swapped at the plug but Turner used red for rx, black for tx way back when. Also, this came with a 4 pin Cobra to 5 pin Realistic adaptor and I was just wanting to make sure everything jives before keying up. Meter...
I inherited a very clean SSK. I've searched and just couldn't find a solid answer. Did Turner use red for TX and black for RX? Bonus if someone can just tell me where shield, white, red, black go on Realistic 5 pin connector (TRC-458). Also, the gain control underneath is turned clockwise almost...
Same! Made mine with 14awg stranded from an old extension cord. It's my primary horizontal when I don't have the moxon up. That and 20 watts has logged 41 states, a few in Europe, The Caribbean Islands, all over Canada...
Heard El Capo fading in and out on 37LSB yesterday, only station at the time. Tried calling out but the barefoot Navaho just didn't have the grunt. I even had my scrap pile Moxon in the air
The trusty barefoot Navaho was getting out last night on the scrap wire inverted V. I wish I could rotate it once in a while, it favors East/West right now. Made seven contacts though, Ontario, Ohio, the Carolinas. Today is off to a fine start too. Good stuff.
My inverted V sharing some real estate with my homemade GMRS antenna. I've got the span a little wide on the vna but not bad for an old extension cord huh? In hindsight, I think that ugly choke should be at a right angle to the mast but it's a working.
We're on the air fellas! Multiturns installed, adjusted L30 per manual, haven't touched any other adjustments. AM deadkey 4 watts swings around 12. SSB peaks around 20. That final bias is still real sensitive. I bet VR16 is only dialed in a few ohms to set bias at 15mA. I still think I have a...
Conditions have been horrible in Lonedell, Missouri about 30 miles west of St Louis. I had the barefoot Gemtronics GTX-77 fired up last night blasting all 12 watts into my scrap wire inverted V at 25 feet and made one contact with 305 in the Buckeye. Yep, I logged it.
Kind of wanted to put multiturns in here anyway. Having a hard time finding 300 ohm. Would 200 ohm work? As a test and assuming the rest of the circuit is ok, I should be able to short the two utilized terminals of VR16 and see very little if any voltage at TR43 base?
They look the same, just isolated and checked. .57 Vf on both and that varies with temperature change. By the way, I got rid of the lingering collector voltage by replacing the relay on a whim. Keyed was showing around 6.5v but when i unkeyed it would spike to over 16v and slowly bleed off. No...
Just to clarify, I used rosin core electronics solder, decent stuff just can't remember the name. No plumber products touched this board. I just know a solder sucker can create splatters and I want to make sure none got mixed in to the old flux while it was bubbling. I've already found a couple...
One ohm as measured in your schematic and thanks so much for taking time to make those. Here's another thing I noticed after rechecking driver bias. When I adjust VR15 for the driver bias as described using USB I can pretty much nail 40mA right on the money. However when I switch to AM and...
