Heard ya way out there this morning 404 but couldn't make the trip back. Like others, locals on 16AM (whom I know and are totally cool) and bleedover on either side often wipe 16LSB out around here. And then there's the dudes I'm hearing on 40AM and FM that dgaf. Part of it I recon, gotta take...
Besides a stock cb and some walkie talkies as a kid, I've only been into the radio hobby for about a year now. I started experimenting with antennas on 11 meter and they were all horizontal. It was simply an oversight when I built my first antenna for GMRS. I figured it out quick enough. I don't...
WDX-1863 boomed into St Clair, Missouri this morning on 40LSB for about 5 minutes. Tried getting back a few times but the little McKinley didn't have enough throttle. I'll be trying again tomorrow and this weekend. Did talk to some good locals this evening on 16AM so that was cool. Happy...
Made my first DX contact in two weeks with 640 Nevada operator John on 40LSB last night. About an S3 and the only station I heard at the time. Good QSO. Faith in equipment restored...
Did some more testing. Definitely works better vertically. My first test was on identical radios but the one with the telescopic had an almost dead battery doh. Performance is about the same between the two but that's with me holding the moxon over my head and no way to measure swr. Be...
2 hour project. Used 10awg ground wire. Hooked it up to my Retevis RB27 with a 3 ft TNC to PL239 cable. No way to measure SWR but works great and easily hit a repeater I usually have trouble with even with a super smiley telescopic.
Yep, close but no cigar. Thanks for trying though. I heard other stations making contact with you so I backed off, no sense adding to the QRM. Agreed on some horrible sounding stations out there. You always sound good up here. Last two stations I've made contact with tried to give me grief...
I hate call buttons, especially when they're right under a menu button. A razor blade took care of the little nub that actuates the switch. Stuffed a thin piece of foam behind the PTT button as it's way too easy to accidentally key. Pulled the weight out also. Suits my preferences much better now.
Been calling out every day starting at 40L, not much luck. Conditions here west of St. Louis haven't been very good for me anyway. Man I can't wait to get an antenna or three up in the air where it/they belong. Too windy to throw a wire up. Also have some station booming in on what I believe is...
Yep, that was me and I commend you on a very noble effort on trying to pull my signal out man. I run a box stock barefoot McKinley in my Cherokee with a drilled hole roof mount antenna on a Breedlove mount. I run a custom base loaded Larsen while driving and I have an MFJ 12 meter telescopic (I...
An inverted v I made out of an old extension cord and wood trim for a spreader. Two and a half sections of 2" pvc conduit for a mast, about as sturdy as a spaghetti noodle.
It was great talking to you J.J.. That was the only contact I made that day and my first dx in over a week. Made my day friend. Thanks again for the QSO!
I acquired a TRS Challenger 850 and have determined that the 9.785 crystal in the LSB circuit (X1) is bad. I know very little about these circuits. I'm assuming this is an SSB filter? Anyway, when I tap on it, I get audio on LSB. USB and AM are fine. Solder joints look good. Anyone have one of...
