Great video. Ive seen a lot of his videos. Pretty easy to restore the VCO it seems. I just have to figure out how to test the block for functionality first.

Is there a way to test the vco? When I adjust it, I can hear it tuning in and out. Nothing audible but hiss.

Its odd as heck. The schematic shows a 5.5v source feeding 1 side ofvthe VCO. There is an output that goes to pin 1 IC201 and it says 2.7v. Hand written. Something doesnt make sense.

Update: tp1 is not adjustable. Its solid at 5.5v and its supposed to be adjusted to 3.6v. When turning the VCO, i can hear shifting as if dialing in a portable AM pocket radio but nothing audible just hissing. Then, there are more issues. The tx light is flickering on and off while in rx mode...

From what I hear, most people who absolutely love these radios are not technicians and never had to go inside. There are exceptions to this obviously.

I got into it this morning. Looks like someone changed the big cap and cleaned up that part of the board. I do see other leaky caps. Will change them out shortly. I also see a few tantalums that like to short out and take parts with them. I didnt know that they hadca mobile version ofvthis...
