If I run my finger across C184 and C182, the receive volume jumps up, gets fuzzy and then drops back down until I run my finger across them again. C182 I've replaced, gonna replace C184 and try that. I may even yank out the 7222ap IC and put in another one. Not sure if it's that 7222ap or not...
Yanked out and tested the following (replaced all 4 anyway):
C243 (tested fine with good ESR).
C182 (tested as right UF but had high ESR, over 70 ohms).
C179 (tested fine with good ESR).
C175 (tested fine with a slightly high ESR).
Q44 (tested as a BJT but had over 300 HFE. Replaced anyway...
I honestly believe now that the receive is there, just the volume is low, as though the volume control isn't working. I checked it and it tests as a 1k ohm, which it should be.
Getting the right signals on all my locals, and skip, just the volume has to be jacked almost wide open to hear anyone.
I read on the Galaxy updates page that if a 2517 has low receive audio, then cut the red wire beside CN13 on the switchboard and route that wire to R90. They claim R90 is on the corner edge of the main board, but this R90 in this 2517 is next to the balanced modulator. They claim this issue...
I checked Q44 which is mentioned several times as being a known fault for this issue. It's more like just low volume, the receive seems like it's there and fine. Just have to turn volume almost wide open.
Q44 shows nothing on all leads. IC8 leads show the right voltages. This transistor is...
I'm getting 8v on Q17 and the 1k resistor next to it, and I'm getting a constant 8v on the red wire next to cn13 on the switchboard.
I plugged my external speaker into the PA jack and still have to crank volume almost wide open. This usually means the audio IC (8) is bad, but all the voltages...
By the way, what's the purpose of that blue cap just to the right of the black ground wire in picture 3? I've never seen that before in any other 2517.
Got a different Galaxy DX 2517 on the desk today showing the same symptom as the last 2517.
Symptom:
Low receive (sensitivity and volume) in all modes.
Everything else works as it should. Transmit is around 50w PEP (SSB around 35w).
I've already checked the usual,
Switches
Controls
Wires
Wire...
Well, i just diffused the green meter lights in my Saturn because there was a bright spot in the center of the meters and the light wasn't spreading uniform across the meter.

Well, he did get back with me just a few minutes ago with an update.
He said it was his bad because for one he was drinking, two he was also smoking weed, and third he's old and couldn't see the writing for the knobs. He said he got up this morning, turned it back on and now there is no strange...
