I went up to ch21 this morning but had no conditions at all. I visited back a few times thru the day but mother nature was not favorable. I'll catch you in there soon, brother....
Choo Choo :)
Talked with triple one on Grand Island, 81 and hit and run in Chicago. Black Sheep in the Bahamas and Dr J in Texas on ch 20 this afternoon. Mother nature was not being nice so you had to get them while they were in there cause the bottom would fall out real quick. Trainman steppin' :)

Hung out on 27.205 while working on radios. Skip was coming in and out all day long. Started with Illinois, NY, in the morning (7am) and Maryland down thru the Carolinas around noon ending up with the Sand Pile around 4pm.
Thanks for your reply, Handy Andy. Both input and output foils including ground foils are good going to and from the 2290 board. I know exactly what your referring to as I have seen those foils lift from the board from previous radios I have worked on. Looked like the tech had over heated them...
Weird problem with this one. I used my audio probe and traced back to where I lost my modulation. I have modulation coming up to and out of TR44 (2sc2166) collector going into the junction of C209 (820pf) and C338 (390pf) but that is where it stops. It is not getting to the input (base) of the...
Hey, Shadetree....was probably us you heard on 20 in Alabama. I'm back on the vertical Shockwave about 45 ft up. Had about 35 people from Virginia on up the eastern coast to NY coming back to me and a few friends just ratchet jawing locally. They couldn't believe I was running bare foot. I said...
Always a pleasure, my friend :)
I will be hanging on 20 today, as well. Hope we still have some conditions.
Trainman steppin, with my chin in the wind....CHOO CHOO....
Beam update.....
I am just tickled pink. I hooked my analyzer up to "Locomotive Breath" this morning. Without even adjusting the antenna gamma... this is the SWR after the build. I couldn't believe it!!!! I know the SWR will come down even more once I mount it up top my 20 foot tower. I hooked...
Murdog....
Element Spacing
From reflector to driven is 78.7"
From driven to 1st dir is 43.3"
From 1st dir to 2nd dir is 61.4"
From 2nd dir to 3rd dir is 114.9"
From 3rd dir to 4th dir is 142.5"
Now, after the 5th element you need a minimum of 9 feet. My 5th is mounted at the end of the boom...
I finally finished assembling my custom built 45 foot long boom 6 element beam today. I have named it "Locomotive Breath"...lol. An appropriate name for the Trainman's beam. All I need to do is install it on my 20 foot tower. I am not going to use a rotor with this antenna. It will be pointed...
I love talkin' to all y'all. I was up on 38 LSB this morning and nothing much was happening. Just a little local chit chat. Then I went back down to channel 20 Am and made some good contacts up north and along the east coast. Y'all were sounding good in my radio :) 73's Choo Choo....
Seeing the radio is in excellent shape, cosmetically, I would recommend that you re-cap the radio before your alignment. It definitely looks like a keeper but those electrolytics will need to be replaced due to age of the radio. As far as using simple things for your alignment, as suggested by...
I talked to a few guys in Windsor, Ontario and a bunch in Michigan this morning before 8AM on 38 LSB. It wasn't too busy at that time so I switched to channel 20 Am. The guys in Chicago got a little upset at the fact I was doing 30+ and walking the locals up there.....but that's Mother...
