yessir, 2 decades on 27.185 has got me very used to all kinds of folks. ssb has been a very welcomed change in comparison. sometimes, i like it when 11m ssb is very quiet. static gives me a reassurance that nothing bad is happening, and i don't communicate with that facebook thing. if i have...
yes, i basically live under a rock. working 14hr days in the transportation industry using 27.185 to hear and inform others about road conditions for 25 years. never talked on ssb till a year ago. apologies for violating everybody's sanity with my comment
i guess 2 disclaimers were insufficient: "according to" and "just sharing information". now i can go to those operators and tell them what the cb bible operators say. i hate swearing on the radio but can do nothing about it besides turn it off. we don't have as good of conditions in ohio as...
after talking to many operators, some of the reasons 11m is getting more quiet is because there are so many people sick of getting stomped on by "out of band" ham operators. most of them using WAY more than the allowed power, bragging about their icoms, and cussing up a storm because they are...
just picked up an optima mk2, enjoying some of the features. waiting for a steady station locally at a good distance to be able to judge the filters in comparison to the 6900v7 and 959. with shottky diodes, the 949/959 was my favorite for a listening experience.
a friend picked up some coax, pre-assembled, from facebook. right out of the gate, that sounded scary. it is white, stiffer than lmr400, has 259's installed, and labeled as following.. Commscope 0216 9700851 10awg 125cmp(etl) c(etl) hns# 1010809 rev c eo22181. i dug around on the web and...
i found ssb about a year ago after 20 years of driving and using only AM. it has been interesting to see how the conditions move around depending on the season. haven't heard europe for a couple weeks, but there's been a whole mess of those E clouds and short range skip has been happy. it has...
we'll be standing by and giving it a try. in 6 months, i haven't heard anybody there. due to language, i usually camp out on 555usb and stay well below 28. thanks for coordinating the effort
i read with past solar events, it's taken a couple weeks for everything to settle back down. we keep wondering why folks were so excited for solar max. when every time we get any noteworthy solar activity, conditions are mostly wasted north of 40°lat. people in 3 division have been happy
will have to look into E skip. i haven't been at this ssb business for very long, but studied heliophysics a bit. does the sun flipping it's magnetic poles mid cycle make all the conditions migrate to the southern hemisphere? using the MUF map, we are lucky to hear jamaica in the morning here in...
1 sawblade on each side of the body would double the rigidity, i would think. surface preparation is key. mark me down as guilty, for reading for marketing literature than technical.
thank you for your time spend compiling all of those resources on that website. amazing how one can get by successfully for over 20 years with the same simple stuff, having no problems. things get complicated when we desire more. 6 months ago, i had no idea what single sideband was. i been...
yahoo! that would look neat with a 36" sawmill blade on the roof, a few washers, and some clearcoat to prevent rust. the car is all black, so i will write Blackcat360 on it somewhere with your permission. 3 bolts and washers would hold that to the roof real good. I'm for function and low swr...
thankfully, no cluster blinking at this time. when the trimag and coax was all tight, i put 4oz of liquid electric tape around the roof hole and all 3 magnets so it was all sealed. verified with product manufacturer of the tape that no metals were ingredients. swr didn't change when liquid tape...
i never considered or thought about a roof mounted antenna. used to having a mirror bracket or mag mount for open coil antenna to withstand 70mph + wind speed. thanks for the input.
