My vote is none of them, for the price of one you can buy a good used Hf rig, and have something to listen to when 10/11 meters is dead. My opinion is why spend 4 or 5 or 600 hundred dollars on a radio that only does 1 or 2 bands.

Sometime around 2006 the China front mics became even crapier, that’s when they switched to different audio chip that you can’t find anymore, so if the audio chip burns up the radio is junk.

I bought a president Maryland antenna, it says made in Spain on the packaging. Im not 100% sure, but I think all of the President mobile antennas are at least made in Europe, which is better than China. Once I get it installed I will give a little update.

welcome, you could always just buy a used mobile ssb radio and run it off a power supply to start out with, if you don't want to spend a ton of money right off the bat. when the band is open you don't really need an amp. I would try making contacts with 12 watts first, and see what happens...

Keep in mind, there is two different versions of the uniden 980. The first version was made from about 2011 or 2012 to about 2014ish, the second version from about 2015 ish to present. So depending on the year your radio was made, the boards maybe labeled differently.

Your right, I think I should use one that has the lug mounts. I want to be able to put my headliner back up, I don’t think an so239 with a 90 will clear.
