I did this to one of my old Grants. It works great! I had to adjust the 1uf up a bit and added a pot and diode where R131 would be, I just followed the silk screen and ended up with a great working limiter.
I noticed .that more uf = more sensitivity for swing.
A few things I've picked up were to beef up a few of the caps for the regulator and audio chip.
For C172 I'll use a 2200 or 3300uf and C181 gets a 1000uf. These help keep the whole radios voltage steady.
If you leave C232 empty it will eliminate the muting between channels while the channel...
I helped a friend repair the same issue on his Craftsman a while back. You're totaly right, the original stuff is way too cheezy for what it has to do.
My old 1990s Ford LS25 still works, but has major slop and is getting hard on my poor elbows especialy with all of the bushings that make it...
Me too, I hate when they float above the board. Larger ones might even get a drop of adhesive. Gorilla glues Cear Grip Contact Adhesive, It remains removable.
I've heard once that some might need the space between the board, *Inductance*? interference*? Anyone know?
Heck yeah, These are great if you're focusing on one radio at a time and bringing back original performance and quality.
But, if you want to experiment with different enhancements or characteristics in the radio or just have multiple radios to go through, bulk is a better option. Just so you...
Thats what I do. I just order 10 to 50 or so of each at a time from Mouser as needed. Some get used more than others. It helps keep my storage bin space to a minimum. Keep in mind that some are rated for 50v.
Also 0.47uf is as small as I have ever ordered, I havnt seen much difference using...
Is it more on LSB than in the other modes?
The LB209 adjustable coils drift like a bum in the sun, and some are worse than others.
I'm wondering if recentering their adjustment height because of our disabling VR6 and using the 470 ohm in ground has anything to do with it.
The only other...
The .47uf in that spot does cause a small delay that can be seen on the scope. I used a 1M resistor from the ( - ) of C96 to ground to chill the DC that ends up there. But 1st a 10K from the same spot to pin 4 for the slightly flatter response I was looking for. We now have impressive...
I guess it was too big, I had no idea that could happen. It must have been like that for a while, I don't know why I didn't notice before...
I tried a 2.2uf and a 1uf (which I thought was there), they both caused simular delays.
I wasn't going to have time until tomorrow morning, but plans change. I was exited to try Brandons suggestion of pre heating some of the 1156s nearby components. Before I grabbed the soldering iron, I wanted to look if any DC voltages on any of the pins changed during the "pump up", which could...
I did this on a hunch with a simular radio.
Find test point 2 and measure voltage to board ground/ not chassis ground, on channels 1 and 40. Remember the number on 40, while keying slowly turn L13 to its max top and bottom while watching your watt meter for movement. record max and min...
I have fun posting these, I always hope someone can learn along with me, and maybe geta kick out of seeing these old radios come back to life.
Here's another Sears Roadtalker, it's a 663.38070700 AM Radio. I had recently pulled a few radios off the shelf to make sure they work to put on...
Is the VCO voltage in check? It might just be out of lock. I think a failing channel switch can do this also by creating incorrect pin combinations. I feel we should hear a small POP when the power switch is cycled, so be prepaired for multiple issues. (or do they fully mute, out of lock?)
I...
This Roadtalker is back on the shelf until I feel more capable of verifying the integrity, bandwidth and center of the filter. Otherwise if a parts radio comes along I'm just going to Hail Mary it with the suspected goods.
The adjustments behaved in a simular way in one of my 2-button...
I'm going to try monitoring while removing the probe. Just a satisfy that part of my curiosity. I did try to monitor at different spots too. I might button this one up until I get a parts radio or a VNA to put my mind at ease.
Anyway I found that If anyone wants to pump up that modulation...
Thanks for getting back with me, I don't not have a VNA or a spectrum analyzer that I could do this with. If I did it would be my first time trying a sweep on a filter. These are tools that are next in line to treat myself with.
