Last night conditions held on close to Midnight for me. Decided to jump to AM and was able to talk to 308 New Mexico and 1205 Colorado in the Rockies.

Just had a flashback when I asked why SSB strong signals sounded so bad..... Least I was able to replace the few resistors and it made it ok....... Damn radio still sits on the shelf though... :)

Had fun making a handful of contacts around 9PM Central time. Channels were busy. :) Seem things have been going ok this last week so far.

Now that I think about it, My Galaxy 99v does randomly drop power... Comes back randomly. I did try to poke around the board, but it was still acting up. I will need to take a much closer look at each solder joint. Another Uniden PC66XL radio I bought at auction for a couple dollars wasnt...

Unsure if it will help, but maybe heat related? Possibly a cold solder joint somewhere? Gently push around the board with a plastic tool when it happens to see if the deadkey watts jump back up... Just an idea to try. :) Otherwise, hoping its not something else more severe.

You brought up a great point... One must ADORE the radio if they will go through the trouble to replace all the capacitors.... :)

TM86 brought up a good point......... Maybe poke around underneath the board and see if it comes back. I fixed a Realistic TRC-449 doing this which so happens to be right in front of me lol! Did the fix back in 2021.

My guess is that the board may be due for some new capacitors. I got a sears Roadtalker that the receive just slowly fades away. I can't recall if it was in SSB or in AM. I got another Pace Sidetalk 1000 SSB radio that for sure does it in SSB. Though I would hate to recap the entire radio...

I have a few of those radios. One behaves like the one you have. I did start to recap the radio section by section, but still no luck. There is one part of the board I still need to recap, but I worked on the radio about 5+ years ago. Someday I will run into it again. :)
