Icom IC-v82 Programming Problem

I just bought an icom IC-V82 and am trying to prrogramme it but I can't hear any sounds coming from it or can't seem to access my local repeater. It doesn't even access my local repeater. Has anyone got any ideas of what I could be doing wrong. Any help you give would be much appreciated...
