Palomar TX 5300

I have taken down my Palomar TX5300A from my attic. The purpose is to use it now as a PA to my Elecraft K2, BUT One question remains. MUST you switch on this PA before sending RF through it . Several users claim you will ruin it if you simply want to work barefoot, letting the signal pass...
