Realistic TRC 453 CLARIFIER DOES NOTHING

Does anyone even give a rip??? Well I dreamed about it all nite (yeah right). This morning figured out what the problem was. Reconnected the semi-original clarifier pot. I found a 1m pot, swapped the wiper board into the original pot housing. Realigned. Reconnected the squelch pot back to its...

Realistic TRC 453 CLARIFIER DOES NOTHING

You're gonna love this. Well maybe some wont. Tried three different pots in that clarifier spot. All three gave me problems. Thats what happens using old old parts that kinda get butchered to fit the spot. OK. I don't use squelch. And just got dead frustrated fitting a pot in there with what I...

Realistic TRC 453 CLARIFIER DOES NOTHING

Geez, the previous owner must have dropped this radio on its face/knobs. The doggone 1k RF gain pot I used for the clarifier fix went bad too. More hairline cracks right across the terminals to the carbon traces. The volume and squelch pots are real pots, not plastic PC mounts. And the mode...

Realistic TRC 453 CLARIFIER DOES NOTHING

I know this is an old post. Was just given a 453. Same problem. Clarifier does nothing. Got zero volts on the wiper. Removed pot from the board. Zero resistance. Under a magnifying glass, all three traces from the carbon traces to the terminals, a straight break on all three. I did a cheap dirty...

What is the tool to remove this nut called?

I believe they are called spanner nut wrenches. We'd make our own if needed be. Get a piece of thin tubing steel, aluminum works too, that fits over the pot shaft, file the sides down leaving two little dimples. Voila! Spanner wrench.

    Galaxy 2100 frequency counter problem

YES! Many good people helping. Dustin at R&R been going out of his way too to help. Much thanks. Hope I can repay the help. I did replace the 6102 IC but that didn't help. The 5302 IC is also still available so going to try that next but I need to find a socket for that big IC. I did this kind...

    Galaxy 2100 frequency counter problem

FYI R&R sold a lot of his remaining stock to Barkett. Barkett shows OUT OF STOCK on the EPT210010A board. Rats. Good news tho, the TC5032 IC is available on ebay.

    Galaxy 2100 frequency counter problem

I read the other day, on the web, someone showed how to cure hum on his Galaxy freq counter. Basically a .1 or .01 from one of the pins on the main IC to ground. We've all seen this before. I don't recall what pin it was, but I just took a 0.1 from ground and probed the pins til the osc stopped...

    Galaxy 2100 frequency counter problem

No. Metal box is isolated. You said you've mounted the 7805 in the old zener holes. I drilled a small hole in the middle of the two holes for its a ground trace on the bottom side. Grounded the regulator there. You said you used a wire. Sounds like maybe you grounded the regulator somewhere...

    Galaxy 2100 frequency counter problem

Brandon7861, very sorry. You are correct. The crystals are 3.2768 mhz AND 2.68375 mhz. Normally I use my sniffer loop, 3 turns of wire, coax center to shield, connected to an all band receiver, this case a TS-690S. Normally dialing up the crystals freq you can see on the s meter there's an...

    Galaxy 2100 frequency counter problem

Brandon7861 when I get home from work I will get the main board number. Nomad, the board is untouched. Ive owned my 2100 for at least a decade or two. I am ordering another TD6102 that the vco feeds. Amazing its still available. Ive noticed other schematics show the TA7310 getting the vco feed...
