    Yes, you can turn the APRS Mute, E06, to off. Of course, that might be worse than the blinking, but you can turn the volume down all the way.

    The GPS icon will only show once it finds enough sats (which can take some time depending how where it is located). You should be able to go through the menus and see the GPS menus. Some can be disabled, but I do not recall having to add them when I installed the GPS.
