Well, the subject pretty much says it all. Has anyone else noticed this? It seems like lately I get a little bit of crackle on occasion from the speaker on my 8DR. It seems to happen when someone is overdriving their mic a bit and I have the volume turned up. I can try borrowing another...
It sounds like feature wise this HT is a pretty good match vs the VX-8GR. But what about the 8-DR (which is what I have and why I ask). I'm thinking about getting this simply for packet use - being able to do packet on the go without needing a separate TNC would be nice. But it sounds like...
This radio keeps tempting me. I see it every time I go to HRO. It sits there tempting me. It's the VX-8DRs younger brother. I keep telling myself "See, if I get that then I can throw a short but better whip on it and then put it in my laptop bag and always have a radio with me." I'm just...
I am in need of a moderately-priced analyzer and I'm looking at these two. Many folks I know have the MFJ-259, but one friend that bought one said if he was going to do it over he'd get the ZM30 instead. The only downside I see is that the ZM30 only goes up to 30Mhz, while the MFJ goes up to...
If a phone can correctly monitor voltage then why not a radio? Is the voltage displayed meaningful? Or do you just run it 'til it dies and swap batteries?
(Good thing for field day my Golf has a lighter jack in trunk and you can run the cradle off of it. It seems the cradle charges fast...
It seems to serve no other function. I was trying to run the battery down, admittedly, and turned the radio on this morning. Full meter. It quickly dropped to 0 and then shut off.
I can monitor battery voltage of course - at what point should I start getting ready to swap batteries?
I just noticed that the GPS mic for the 92AD has a power switch. You can power the GPS off when you don't need it. As opposed to needing a screwdriver. Oh, if only Yaesu was that smart.
One issue I've noticed with my VX-8DR is that if I have it running in the car with the cig lighter plugged in it gets insanely hot. Hotter than it should. Maybe you're not supposed to run it that way with a full battery? I.e. let the battery run down and then plug it in to charge?
I guess I could take a spare pair of iPod earbuds, but I only want one ear covered. I don't wanna have one just dangling. There's one at radio shack I'm gonna go look at.
Then I have MORE batteries to manage. No thanks. If I am using this setup I'll be in a situation where I don't want to worry about my BT headset croaking.
My gripe - I wish you could turn off the GPS unit without removing it, since taking it off of the speaker/mic is a PITA. Anyone know how long the unit will last with the GPS running and a fully charged big battery? I'm gonna have 2 with me for field day and I expect to be onsite for a while...
I'm looking for a good mono earbud/earpiece to use with this radio. Given how deep the recessed jack is I can't use my regular ER-6i IEMs with it, and wouldn't want to. I want something that just goes over/in 1 ear so that I can easily monitor while wearing the radio.
(I wish I could just...
For me, with APRS mute on I still hear something when I transmit beacons. With it off and the sound at zero on that band I hear the same thing, but I don't hear incoming packets. Is that how it should work?
They always give the output frequency. That is the standard.
Yes. If they're using a non-standard offset then they should tell you.
Where did you find the repeater? Most repeater listings are like this:
N6NFI 145.230 MHz – PL 100.0
N6NFI is the call sign. 145.230 is the...
