You're right about the radiating characteristics of the coil antenna. The only part that should radiate on a well designed coil antenna is the top 1/3 of the coil on up. This gives it a "bow tie" effect radiation pattern which helps keep more of the signal on the ground. Kale

I'm not saying the antenna will perform as well as any 6 element quad but it is doing better than the quad I had. I like it because I don't have to worry about wind storms any more. You still need to talk to the man and let him explain how it works vertical AND horizontal.

There's no sutch thing as a "resonant "antenna "with" reactance. Do you not know what a damn Bird meter is? It's one of the best meters to tune an antenna to show how much reactance the antenna has. Any antenna that has a high reactance isn't going to perform very well. That's what tears up...
