I traded e-mails with Eileen at Leixen after seeing a VV-898 posted on their site. She confirms that is will be a dual band mobile, but says it may be a while before it is available.

I was e-mailing with the seller and I told her the exact same thing.
The web site does show they have a new model... the VV-808S, but I don't see anything that suggests it is a dual band.
I got the 2M version. I can confirm the Chinese manual is not very useful - at least to me. However, as m42duster said, that's not a huge problem. Looking at the software (which is easy to use) really helped me with understanding the features of the vv-808.
I've taken some screen shots of the...
Different strokes for different folks... receive equal to KG-UVD1P at a fraction of the price - a win for me, no flashlight - a none issue for me, battery packs - I bet they arrive soon.
I'll grant you the 2.5 steps, but I didn't take the battery life to be so bad that it would be a deal...
I did a quick search and didn't seen any posts here about the UV-B5, so I would like to introduce what I am calling the best kept secret in Chinese handhelds.
It shares similar features/functionality with the UV-5R - it is a pretty typical dual-band HT, but based on the reviews I have seen...
Hans (PD0AC) figured it out... he did the math - see link below. I also noted in the 409Shop listing I saw, it stated that it was a UV-5R in the description. Oops.

You need to go into Device Manager and look at the COM Ports to see which port the Prolific USB-to-Serial device is using. If it isn't there at all then you have an install/driver issue. In the image below, mine is on COM8.
Hope this helps.

I've summed up some of the info from the Yahoo Group - although there is still a lot of back and forth. You can click the links to see the whole debate, but I think one guy summed it up best: "So it WORKS on 222, KINDA!"

The software limits you to 6 characters, but the radio supports 7. You can get it to display 7 by editing the .dat file.

Did you get this figured out? I may have seen another post saying that you had a bad unit.
Thanks to Ed at www.importcommunications.com, here are some instructions for programming the UV-5R:

I have pics of the UV-3R, UV-5R, and the Wouxun KG-UVD1P together:

The UV-5R fits in my hand the best, but I agree with m42duster that the PTT is easier to activate than I would like.

No one that I know of... but NH7QH is the one who let me know that the UV-5R was going to be released, so I guess he might have them as soon as anyone.
