Just a friendly word of caution on the Predator 10K and that aluminum Cascadia mirror bracket: KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THEM! I had that same setup on my Cascadia, and both the antenna and the bracket gave up the ghost due to metal fatigue within a few months. I do most of my driving in South and...
Well, at this point I'm not sure. I ended up making a new bracket out of steel plate (same thickness as the aluminum bracket that I bought) and it eliminated the vibration problem I was having......so I thought. The vibration just found the next weakest link, and that was the base of my Predator...
I think you're talking about the same bracket I had, the one with the aluminum perch welded to the middle of a "C" shaped bracket? You take out the front two bolts and use the two longer ones that come with the mount. I would STONGLY suggest using a heavy duty stud instead of the typical 239...
What mount do you plan on using? I had the 27 inch single coil on that aluminum "C" shaped mirror bracket on my Cascadia, and it sucks. Vibration over the period of 3 months finally made the mount give up the ghost. It cracked at the top ear, so now I'm gonna use it as a pattern to make a new...
I keep hoping someone has $400 burning a hole in their pocket to drop on this radio, so maybe we could get a review... If I buy another radio right now, I'll have to find a way to pack all of my belongings in the box it came in, 'cause that's where I'll be living when the old lady finds out.
I would like to see some pics of imgur's install and setup. Probably not going to happen, but I'm willing to bet that has EVERYTHING to do with why he's getting crappy reports on AM.
Yeah, I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger on a new radio right now with the anticipation that something new might be coming out. But, I'm also suffering from the old "kid in a toy store" syndrome, where I want something now. Life sucks so bad that it feels good sometimes lol!
Thanks 222DBFL! That's good to know. I'm actually leaning towards the Magnum 257hp. Another radio I've been considering is the Stryker 955hpc. I know it has issues with adjacent channel rejection and being extremely noisy on the recieve end, but there's just something appealing about that radio...
You just hit on something I've been curious about, longhaireddwb. How do these little radios, the Optima 3 and the Magnum 257hp, hold up against vibration. I've been thinking about picking one of these up, and it will wind up going in a Freightshaker Cascadia. Most of my windshield time is on...
It's funny, I've always had a cb in my personal vehicles since my highschool days (now in my late 30's) and from time to time, have heard skip rolling in when conditions were good. I always figured, just beacause I could hear them, didn't necessarily mean they could hear me......especially since...
That's also something I've been seriously considering, Shockwave. Someone gave me an old Kenwood base rig while I was in highschool over 20 years ago. I've always wanted to try it out but haven't really messed with it because of the lack of a ham ticket. Guess I need to hit the books!
