Thats the same set up as one of my 300's. Orange face 1x4. All 8950's. Im not as big a fan of these as i am my 2x5 maco 300's. Have 3 of those. The are all 6 volt tubes. Sharp looking rig though
I've got one of those 150's on a dual final galaxy 939, and it never gets warm enough to need one fan, much less 4! Good lord and a quarter, I thought it was going to take flight! My drone isn't that damn loud...
Last month I had a RCI 2995 up for auction. Bidding was nuts on it. A guy ran it up to $780 then wouldn't pay. Sent a message and he said "send it to me first. I've been burnt on eBay before. When it hits the post office, I will send your money" Re-listed and it went to Sweden for $200 less.
yeah thats right. i re wired mine per that schemo. and i dont know how i forgot about it, but ive got a maco 750 thats been converted to 6 volt and a quick peek inside couldve helped me a long time ago. lol maybe someone in the future will get some help from this. thanks fellas
the tune was a bit off center but in the time i had the box, sold it and bought it back, the coil had been spread. for whatever reason.. i brought it back to a more stock appearance and it made a slight difference but not much. adding a .0047uf cap centered the load back up. the box does really...
Well thanks for the replies fellas. Only reason I asked about repair facilities, is I wouldn't want to send a radio out that someone couldn't talk on right away. Just me I guess.
Not sure I'm going to give them away either. smh... if he wouldn't give them away when he was living, why would I...
Louisville wouldn't be so bad. Would be a good excuse to go see the parents. They live an hour south of Louisville. But they live 5 hrs from me lol.
I thought there was a hand in Alabama that worked on them as well. But we've yet to go thru all his things and inventory. thanks for the replies...
Yeah that's my only problem. I've seen these Brownings fetch good money, but it may be a wash if any need repairs or updates. I do know they are mint in appearance, but haven't been warmed up in ages.
Well, it's really easier than it seems. Don't know why I've not done this before. Only thing that's weird to me is pin 1 on the tubes have 13.6 volts and pin 12 has 6.3. Operates very well. Seems like it needs more capatance in the load, it's almost fully meshed. But does well. Thanks for all...
Just to be sure, which ever tube I start at, I start at #1 then # 1 to the next and out of #12 of the same one to #1 of the next and so on until I finish with the last tube #12 going to ground. Correct?
All of mine are 1x3 with 8950's. I was looking at the data sheets on those and the LF6's and aside from an internal connection on the 8950, they look the same. And I think the LF6 has about 7 watts more peak plate dissipation, with a slightly higher amperage draw. I'm gonna try one tonight and...
Yeah the 6lq6 would be a 9 pin example but the LB6 and such are 12 pin. I've got a bunch of these 12 pin and several 200's, so I'm gonna convert at least one to see what the fuss is about.
yeah ive read that passage during a google search. also read one where someone converted a Swan with a pair of 8950's to 6lb6's. he just re wired the heater to a series and claimed that was it. i was under the understanding that the tube sockets would all be the same, meaning the 8950 sockets...
This may not be posted in the right place, if it is, please move it.
I just had a dear friend go silent key Thursday and was an avid radio operator for 40 years. He was a nut for the Browning radios. Mark 3, mark 4 and I'm not sure what else. His wife has asked me and another hand to go thru...
I'm sure the answer to this question is buried in this forum somewhere, but I had minimal luck turning it up. My question: what I say involved in converting some of my Maco 200's to 6 volt? I understand I have to reduce the filament voltage to 6.3 volts, but is there anything else involved? I've...
Yeah from what I read online that's what the consensus is. Just hate to buy something else to measure these chokes. Wish the schematics showed their values. Would make life's much easier
I understand what you're saying about the coils. Oven thought about winding a couple but I know I would get the value off, and that of course will have an effect on things down stream. I'm trying to revive one that was bought DOA. New everything but the board with the pre amp. Always hated...
