Well I went ahead and did the mic mod, as suggested it made a huge improvement, its like i put a power mic on it, actually had to turn the mic gain down a bit. Average ssb power is now at 80-90w, peaks are at 105-107w. I have the ALC meter with my settings showing about 65-70% My conclusion is...

Getting off track, im inquiring about the mic mod, appears no one here has any info on it. Thanks anyways……………..

I have not done the capacitor mod, just the output power in menu mod. From what I have read its the same results either way.

Thanks for the input camaro. My problem is I don't have a loud voice and have to crank up the mic gain to get any response on the alc meter. Its kinda like holding the mic a foot away from your mouth (which I dont do) doesn't seem to have enough drive to get the job done.

Has anyone preformed the icom 7300 mic mod that removes a 2k2 resistor? Supposedly it yields a significate level increase. Good sounding stock mic but maybe there is a bit more that can be pulled out of it?

Sorry forgot some relative info, yes its an older unit with toshiba 2879s, under load the ps drops to about 14,1v and he says it draws around 190a. Just seems kinda low for output, my ts 1600DX loafs along doing more than that with just 8 toshibas.

My BIL purchased a xforce 12 pill and not sure if a driver is necessary to run it, he not a member here so im asking for him. He has a 250amp power supply, driving with just his ranger AR 3500, DK-ing the amp at 300w out and radio swings 100w on am, swings 100w on ssb and hes only seeing 1,000w...

Really? After I put my order in he called me about it, called me few more times to let me know of the progress on it, then called me several times after i got it to see if all was good with it. Maybe he has gotten better with his support.

If I had to guess I would say there was no inline fuse, but that doesn't surprise me. Bought a power cord off that auction site and having it shipped to him :) hopefully it isn't fried beyond fixing.

Friend of mine doesn't have the proper power cord for his 138xlr and uses 2 clamps to hook up to power, says he got mixed up and crossed the wires and smoked the 2sc1419 transistor before he could get it disconnected. He replaced the 1419 but says there is still a short somewhere as he cant hook...

Yes its a sharp looking radio, 2 issues, it does receive but off frequency and it does not transmit, PA mode shuts the meter lights off like you turned off the radio, unsure if that's normal for an older unit or its linked to the no transmit issue.

No I did not compare them, the TRC 458 only lists the mic wiring at cbtricks. Supposedly Sams Photo Fact 126/127 might have it but cant confirm it yet. Thanks for the help.

Yes checked them both at cbtricks, it doesn't have any service info just the schematics for the 138/139. Searching the web, still nothing. Havent found any info if it would be in Sams Photofacts either Thanks.
