If you are referring to the new version of the 497......
The high and low power adjustments are located on the front right side of the board. They should be clearly labeled. Low power adjusts the dead key output when the rf power knob is set all the way counter clockwise. The high power...
Thanks for chiming in DTB.
Seeing how I'm only about an hour away from you..... If I brought the radio in, are there any/many improvements to be made??
I've heard many great things about your services and would enjoy a visit to your shop
Roger on the clean and simple!
The more I use this radio, the more I love it.
Squelch wide open and RF Gain at about 3/4 open.....just sits there whispering. Even the far off contacts come thru crystal clear.
Can't compare it to the old 497's BBB, as this is the first one I've owned.
I do know...
I hear ya Robb.
I've had this thing for a few days now and am really liking it.
Tinkering with radios is something I enjoy as much as the next guy, but ya know.....I honestly can't think of anything yet that would possibly need done to this thing.
I'd say if you're looking for huge...
Well folks, my Stryker SR-497 HPC arrived a few days ago.
This radio has certainly raised my eyebrows on more that one occasion so far. I thought I would share a few photos as well as some info that may help anyone who may have questions about this unit.
One of the first things that led me to...
Thanks for the input 222!
I totally agree with keeping the max power under control.
Did a bit of testing last night with listening to the receive on another radio sitting about 30 ft away and broadcasting thru the Stryker.
Using a small stereo speaker hooked up at the receive end, this thing...
I understand the 4:1 ratio.
I was just trying to describe how Stryker has this radio set from the factory. I will know more once I start using the radio but I do know at this point. The modulation is at peak from the factory, and it looks real nice on the scope at each extreme on the power settings.
Yeah..... I chalk that 959 up to a lesson learned for sure!
I couldn't resist popping the covers off of this 497 this evening and running a couple checks on it just to satisfy my curiosity.
One thing is for sure......it's a completely different animal to me.
All and I do mean all components are...
I thought about that LC.
I guess I didn't really think it would factor in because I tried trouble shooting the problem with the echo board turned off and also with it unmounted from the chassis ( just hanging by the wires).
Lesson learned.
Still don't fully understand why the same board works...
LC, Robb, Waverider.....
I would first like to thank you all for the guidance and suggestions you gave me over the past few days!
Especially you LC. Your patients is amazing.
The good news is, the little 959 is FIXED!! (y)
I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed, pissed off, or just be...
Ok LC.... Latest tests
Good radio:
Freq cnt TP3, channel 20AM, mirror board removed
16.51000 on RX. -16.51001 on TX. -16.51000/16.50999 when I'd speak
Bad radio:
Freq cnt TP3, channel 20AM, mirror board removed
16.51000 on RX - 16.51006 on TX - 16.51006/16.51005 when I'd speak
Good radio:

Something is soon gonna pop Robb!
I'm learning something new everyday.
Thanks for the info on over peaking coils using a wattmeter.
I have been using my scope and adjusting it to see a good clean wave and then adjusting until the wave doesn't get taller or shorter.
I hope that's the correct way
LC
Frequency counter on TP3, channel 20 AM, mirror board in, freq. reads 16.5100
Mirror board removed and mic keyed, freq. reads 16.5100 and holds solid
Freq counter on center pin at anten connector, mirror board removed. Counter reads 27.205 and holds steady.
When I said it was drifting last...
LC,
The hammer is looking like a good option at this point!! Lol
Last post for me tonight also....
You are correct on me having two 959's
They both have the same dual mosfet mod done in the exact same way. I did them both myself.
I did not have to change anything in Ricks instructions to make...
Ok.....here is the info you asked me for..
With mirror board still in, AM chan 20, freq. cntr on TP3
16.50985 with mic gain off
16.586 and drifting with mic gain full open, no mod.
L43 peaks just fine and @ peak, the slug appears to be roughly 50% down the can.
I did change L35 to a 4 turn...
