Verified for sure that the radio works with the CB/PA switch up and HI/LO, BRIT/DIM switches down. Finally got s confirmed radio check and he said it sounded all good.
Thanks fellas!
I sure appreciate it.
I would pull one leg to test it if I didn't just put it back in the truck, and maybe had a desktop setup to test a CB on (garage isn't finished/this truck is too big for it and it's basically winter here in OH).
The diesel mic is indeed a noise canceling mic. I have one connected to the Uniden as well, but I've always had to turn the mic gain down even with the Diesel 4-3's, just not as much.
As for the talkback, there's no resister between the CB and PA jacks on either side of the board. If it's been...
Ha! I just put the radio back in the truck and tested it. If that's the talkback, that's fine with me since it seems to be working fine with the talkback when I rear it a few moments ago.
Got power restored to the old scratchy Uniden and set my external speaker in the cab of the truck it's in...
It's been cold and terrible out this week with freezing rain last night, but it's suppose to be in the 50's today before we take our little trip again. I'm planning on getting the radio back into the truck and I'm going to try to get power to the Uniden in the other truck to verify normal 40...
I'm rather proficient with a soldering iron, however, I got those nubby fingers and no longer have the "extra hands" (stand and clips) that my fat fingers would need to not get burned. I'm totally fine leaving the mod, as long as I know how to use it, or at least run the radio normally. I got to...
Well than, that's a bit more than I want to chew off to return it to a stock-ish radio. I guess I need to know what switch does what then and learn to use it. Having extra channels but still looking like 1-40 is very disorienting for me.
Does it look to you like both of the aforementioned...
...top of the inner faceplate, bottom of inner faceplate,
bottom side of the board where the ext speaker and PA Jacks are located, backside of the speaker (could that be the resistor causing the talkback?).
All pics are clickable thumbnails. Looks like the extra wires on the top of the...
Finally, the long anticipated pictures!
From left to right, top to bottom...

Sorry about pictures, they are on the agenda for tomorrow. Between it raining all day and a splitting headache I didn't get out to the truck. I did start fixing the Cobra 5 pin mic that was attached to the radio previously, but for the life of me I can't find a Cobra wiring diagram for the mic...
That's good to hear. Took a 1.5 hour trip today and couldn't get anyone to answer a radio check on 19, but swear I got someone mocking my "break 1-9" yesterday. A few times today it seemed like the "brit/dim" switch didn't change anything. After getting pictures tomorrow, I'm thinking about...
I've got some of that downloaded haha, but thanks!
Turns out the original Cobra 5 pin mic that was attached to this radio when I picked it up looks to have the exposed ground shield broken. I'll have to repair it tonight or tomorrow and test before I remove it to take pictures tomorrow.
As long as it's not damaging to the radio, I'd like to have talkback. I know that with my Uniden the pots are dirty and occasionally when I'd key up I couldn't hear myself. At that point I'd know to turn the mic gain knob just a bit to get everything making connection again. I still need to...
I looked for one when I had it apart and didn't see one, but maybe I missed it?
Yes. I'm guessing the GTL-DX is a base station unit? This is the mobile unit (only says Cobra 148 GTL on the faceplate) with the selector knob for LSB, AM and USB.
It would have to be in the right angle harness or 4 to 5 pin adapter, unless it damaged something in the mic. It didn't occur before the right able harness was installed, or on the Cobra 29LTD I had in the truck as a placeholder for this one previously. However, when I removed the right angle...
I'll get some pics within the next couple of days.
I did remove the bottom half of the case and disconnected the speaker last time I worked on it. Since the wires for it are both white, it's very possible that I reversed the leads when reconnecting them. I didn't think this would be and issue...
New member here. I was on a CB forum once upon a time in the long ago, but can't for the life of me recall which one. I'm more of a mechanic and like having CB's in my pickups, but it's been awhile since I've installed one.
A little info on the setup...
A used Cobra 148 GTL that I got while...
