I turned down the rf gain and it seemed to help me. It is a used radio and yes I am on am. There is a guy about a mile down the road who has the same radio as me. I’m wondering if maybe it was him with his radio cranked up trying to reach out and touch someone pretty far off. Could this be the case?

I believe I fixed the issue. I opened the top on the radio and found where someone had been in here before and a wire on the back on a board connected to the heat sink had been messed with before. I wiggled all wires and made sure they was plugged in good and the swr rf power meter works perfect...

The radio is in receive mode until I key the mic. Then it switches to tx as it should, unkey the mic and it goes back to receive.

Awesome. Looking better for me. This is a long shot, but that wouldn’t cause the radio to get hot by chance would it?

Oh and I might add that the channel adjustment knob kind of goes haywire when you turn it. Like skips all kinds of channels. Hard to tell where you might land. And some of the rubber buttons make a different tone of beep when you push them. Like maybe an error beep or something

I tried two different pieces of coax to try to rule that out. One of the ones I tried is brand new and from my truck but just has a stock cobra 29 pushing it. The ends appear to be soldered well but I will look into it more tomorrow
