    Covid Cooking- Culinary Cuisine

Mess of deep fryd frogs legs, some worms in the dirt (kraft dinner and peanut butter) as a side, with some fresh rhubarb juice, to wash it all down. We drink gallons of rhubarb juice here, have a major patch of rhu here, about 200 square feet.

Weak solar cycles = another big decline of the 11 meter local & DX population

I am lucky to live in small town rural Ontario Canada, not many of us on the radio, but a handful, many of us are 30 miles apart, but we get it done quite well most of the time. We have nobody using any amount of power, no foulness, no bad manners, no problems , not one. Radio is quiet, but...

    Tram 1411 - Impressed

I have found the better the antenna the better the dx, I had the same antenna on 2 towers here, One at 30 feet feed, one at 45 feet feed, the higher antenna does the skip, the lower one does not. I have a horizontal on the 30 foot right now, USELESS. I need to get it up higher, maybe my next...

    Tram 1411 - Impressed

Yes looks ideal for portable.I have been running a vertical dipole, it works well enough, the nice thing about portable, is if you find a nice hill, you can have great comms. Any kind of gain antenna is not worth the effort for portable. Nice thing about the tram, is that broad banding makes it...

    Tram 1411 - Impressed

I have found with all my antenna testing that close in 10 miles out anything will work well enough, out 30 miles the difference between a 1/4 wave and something with double the gain like a quad is huge, it can be the difference of being able to communicate or not. The farther out your talking...

    Tram 1411 - Impressed

I have a discone in the mmana model software, it does not have the whip on top, but in model, it shows less than one dbi gain, pattern about the same as a 1/4 wave ground plane. So a 1/4 wave would out perform a discone a little, but not enough you would likely notice, I would think the added...

    Tram 1411 - Impressed

Ok, it is a quarter wave antenna then, It will be great broadbander, good for more than just 11 meters, I might have to play with building something like this

    Tram 1411 - Impressed

whatever works, long as swr is good, and it gets out, I did look up a photo, it is not a huge antenna, so more like about 1/8 wave, sounds like you have a winner, might have to look into playing with one of these. I am a junky for antenna fiddling

    Tram 1411 - Impressed

It is basically a 1/4 wave ground plane , with many elements, no reason it would not work ok.

    What is this?

both plotted at 10 meters height over real ground.
  13. xm49north7

    What is this?

VERTICAL PLOT, Notice both have very high swr, I did not try to solve for swr, simply used 11.05 meters as one full wave.
  14. xm49north7

    What is this?

    HORIZONTAL PLOT

    What is this?

I will give this a model and see what it does.

    11 meter Extended Double Zepp

Skip has been amazing here morning till 9.30 at night, getting out many times a day, and some long talk skip as well, 10 to 30 mins, 1000 miles out. Hope it keeps rolling. Look forward to hear how the half delta performs. Will look up some facts on this one, giver her a look in software.

    11 meter Extended Double Zepp

nice looks like some great height, just took the edz down, and the open line, have a diamond at the top of the oak tree, with coax feed. Will be hooking her up this afternoon for a run; fingers crossed. I think my crap home built open line has been part of my problem. Will need to buy some...

    11 meter Extended Double Zepp

So a single zepp, a j-pole in effect. I had a j-pole for a short bit, worked ok, easy to feed for sure.

    what is your new antenna???

    11 meter Extended Double Zepp

May swap in a dipole, on the same tree, put the zepp away for a bit see which one works better.
