omni ground elements effecting a beam below them

Sounds like I need to save up for a new antenna/experiment hahaha. Antenna, rotor, cable... that's $500 easy (little budget)

omni ground elements effecting a beam below them

So...the 2016 radials are much shorter (30"?) and more of them to make up the area difference for a ground plane. Being as they're not extending out as far, they "shouldn't" cause as much of a disruption to the pattern of the beam as they're extended much less off the central point, at the...

omni ground elements effecting a beam below them

Did it have the GP kit? My 2016 has a GP with shorter radials like the top picture.. Those are what I'm worried about.

omni ground elements effecting a beam below them

Hey Homer, Sorry to rejuvenate such an old thread, but I have a 2016 as well which is less than 1 year old and I would love to add a beam to my set-up but I have nowhere else to mount it as my 2016 is taking up my only location available. I don't want to remove it since it's still new and...

Ground wire to my mobile mounting bracket?

Ahh, but I just discovered this tonight... Why would my radio have continuity between the lead and the ground? Everything else checked out fine, I only have continuity between the antenna mount and stud when connected to my radio. Lo and behold, it's coming from the radio. The internal SWR meter...

Ground wire to my mobile mounting bracket?

That's what I'm trying to figure out, but the only item that seems to cause a high SWR is the external SWR meter itself, and only when connected to the mobile. All ground faults go away after disconnecting the meter, and the SWR from my radios internal meter shows a normal value again rather...

Ground wire to my mobile mounting bracket?

The external SWR also causes a ground fault while checking continuity at the antenna mount. With the meter connected to my antenna cable I have continuity from the bottom of the mount to the other side of the nylon washer at the antenna stud. Once I disconnect the SWR meter from the antenna...

Ground wire to my mobile mounting bracket?

My hands seem to have no effect on the external meter when testing my Washington base unit, only when testing the mobile unit. It only seems to react to my hands when they're near it while using my mobile.

Ground wire to my mobile mounting bracket?

I used the radio SWR, and as long as I'm not around wires and in an open area it reads almost dead flat on 1, 40, and 19. When using my fathers old radio shack SWR it kept reading around 3. Strange thing is mine read high too from the radio, but only when connected to the external meter. As soon...

Ground wire to my mobile mounting bracket?

The radio is mounted inside the armrest due to space constraints, and the bracket is screwed into the plastic. The lip mount has a great ground where it is, and the white cable goes from the mount to a grounding strap under the hood that is close by. I added some wire with a ring connector to my...

Ground wire to my mobile mounting bracket?

Will a wire going from the mounting bracket on my mobile unit to a good ground improve my SWR or is that useless? I connected a wire from the thumb screw that goes into the case of my radio right to a ground. Is that useless, can I remove it, or should it provide me with some kind of improvement?

Will a charged battery suffice without the engine running?

No, not without desoldering a couple pins and adding a resistor as a jumper. Last time I tried something like that on a different very similar supply it stopped working. I don't want to keep buying new ones, it's not in my bank accounts best interest... or my wife's hahaha I'm just making sure...

Will a charged battery suffice without the engine running?

That's what I was thinking, but I have a power supply that provides 12.3V at 62.5A. I know I'll never run out of available power at that amperage, but I was told that they need 13.8V to operate properly and at full power. I'm hoping that's not true, but I don't yet have the money for a good watt...

Will a charged battery suffice without the engine running?

What kind of power will I lose if I run my HR2510 direct from a 12V source such as a charged battery or 12V power supply rather than an alternator current or larger supply like 13.8V+? Shouldn't it run "almost" as strong direct from a battery as it would if the engine was running? Will the radio...

    HR2510 FM repeater offset mod

Yeah I agree, but for now I'd like to utilize what I have and see if I want to spend all the extra cash hahaha. There's a 10m repeater in my town that I saw a video of someone talking to Warsaw on hahaha, I'd love to.

    HR2510 FM repeater offset mod

I might instead, I've also started studying for that and it doesn't seem too far out of reach in comparison. Either way, I'd like to know I have the ability to use that in the future, it can save me from buying a 2600.

    HR2510 FM repeater offset mod

I'm going for my technicians soon and I want to be able to reach/open repeaters. That's why I'd like to put a 1/8" trs input on my radio to use a patch cable from my phone headphone jack to the input so I can send them without adding a board internally. The less soldering the better as I'm not...

    HR2510 FM repeater offset mod

If I could install a 1/8" TRS to transmit the audio signal, where would I connect it so it's not affected by any filters? I have a CTCSS app on my phone but have no way to introduce it to the radio other than playing it into the microphone while I talk. I'm told that won't work.

    HR2510 FM repeater offset mod

Looks like it's just what I need, but then how to install it, and where about in the 2510 exactly do I connect it?

    President HR 2600

Yes, he does have a nice radio, and my 2510 was sent to Roger so I understand the value there. My reason for wanting one though is simply for the CTCSS tone capability. My 2510 will be plenty of fun for me until I'm ready to play with the repeaters. If I could find out an easy way to add a tone...
