    Tweety bird noise toy

Do you have a sound clip for an example of the sound you are talking about? Curious what it sounds like.

    How to deal with...?

I think some folks have a weird idea there will be some magical difference after an alignment or recap, but if the radio was working okay prior, it may not be a big difference, or any at all. If it was working okay on your side, alignment went fine, it’s likely a noise issue on his end. You’d...

I'm sure everyone remembers me noise issue... (update)

Yeah, it was hard to believe something could cause so much noise. That one also wiped out the shortwave band if I recall, I had gotten a DX-394 at some point.

I'm sure everyone remembers me noise issue... (update)

I had acquired a 50” plasma TV back around 2008, was a pretty expensive high end model Philips. Had a great picture, but! The noise it put out made using the CB radio near impossible, I could only hear really strong stations if that TV was on. Luckily there were no other radio operators near by...

Old School vs New School CBs: Which do you like ??

I’m a little torn. There is something to be said for having say, a Cobra 2000 GTL, or Grant XL, Washington, even a Cobra 29 LTD, etc., with the normal channel selector and extra switch for the extra “channel”, I do enjoy that classic CB look / feel. For just basic chit chat, often don’t need any...

    Texas Ranger base

I always sort of wanted the Galaxy version, but that’s a lot to not even have FM. Not worth the money at all to me these days. I agree the big meters are nice for sure though.

    Galaxy radios is dead

While there were a lot of Galaxy radios on the air when I got into in the late 90's through the 2000's, both mobiles and base radios, a lot of guys loved them, they kept that same theme for too long. Same generic stuff with a new model name. The price of one today makes zero sense when you can...

Apologies to our friends in the UK

I typed up a big reply after watching that video reminiscing when I got into CB, go to the comments “You must be subscribed for 1 week to add a comment.” (n)

    Galaxy 30 reciever preamp

Would be interesting to see inside of the Galaxy amp. At any rate, wonder if the CTE Mosquito schematic is similar. Probably not the same, but should be a fairly simple circuit in either of them.

Galaxy N channel kit for the RS 465 and Cobra 146gtl

My memory is a little hazy, but I think I built that one like 15 years ago and it worked okay in a 146GTL, I’m almost certain that is the same one I built. I made it on perfboard (or maybe the board with the solder pads), with a bunch of jumper wires, which mistakes are easy to do if you make it...

    Inspect Your New Amps

I agree it looks pretty typical for a lot of CB amps like this going back many years. With a decent install, I doubt the cable will move around to cause any problems. Now, if you just toss the amp in the back of your SUV / car / truck and floor it at every stop light with this thing sliding...

Acquired a Vocom Products 500 watt UHF amp

Yeah some of the resistors do look a bit discolored when you zoom in. I remember getting a blown smaller gold color VoCom at a hamfest for a couple dollars like 15+ years ago. I built a small four IRF520 amp with it back then and ran it at 100w peak for the CB.

    Royce cb radios

Was in the basement to look at a bicycle I have down there to see what I needed for it, and spotted the Royce off in the corner, so figured I'd snap a photo. I thought it was actually in a different area, was like "oh, there's that Royce base" lol.

    Royce cb radios

My first CB as a young teen in like 1999 – 2000 was a 1977 Royce 1-621 base. Used it for like 5 years and it worked well, someone also modified it so it had 40 channels below one and had like 15 channels above 40. The power supply eventually blew a transistor which I swapped out with something I...

    Bluetooth receiver.

Not sure what you need to drive with it, and I’ve only ever used one so very limited experience; most look rather low output. I use a Esinkin BT Adapter with powered bookshelf monitors and other audio amplifiers with RCA inputs. I’ve never measured the output so perhaps won’t do what you want...

    Galaxy DX 959-300, project possible?

Yeah I tinkered with a lot of these back then in junk old amp heatsinks, biggest I did like this was 8 520's, 4 parallel per side, I have a photo of it somewhere. I liked the 4x520 amps for low power / reliability and used one for years.

    Galaxy DX 959-300, project possible?

I built a cheapo MOSFET amp over a decade ago to experiment with on a 959. Haven’t used it in years and it got kinda rusty laying around. It was AB biased, small board in front of the input transformer, and a small keying board by the relay, tried to keep it compact. No photos of it on the radio...

Looking For: Tempo One Cord (Power Supply to Radio)

Thanks for looking as well. I seen that, but it’s in Italy and it will be like $90, sadly I don’t think the radio is worth that much on a cable, they are not really expensive radios as a complete set. There’s another cable in Canada for the FT-200, but it’s like $145 total. I’ll likely hard wire...

Looking For: Tempo One Cord (Power Supply to Radio)

Thought I’d see if anything out there comes up for a bargain, doesn’t hurt to try. Anyway, got an old Henry Tempo One without the power supply to radio cord, so looking for that. It is an 11-pin octal style. I know the radio is the Yaesu FT-200, and also was made for the Sommerkamp brand...
