10 meter Radio Suggestions

I'm having problems with my 10 meter radio an RCI 2990. It works fine on SSB but squeals real bad on AM. The more you turn up the power the more she squeals. Any suggestions on another good radio I might try? I'm looking for something brand new this time so I know no golden screwdrivers have been in it. It doesn't nessecarily need to be a base though that would be nice. Even a good mobile with a power supply would work.

It sounds like someone has been in that radio, or you just have a problem with it that could be fixed.

Anyway, a 2950dx is hard to beat, IMO. I guess it depends a little on the features you're looking for. Personally I would go with the mobile w/ power supply. I never really cared for the power supply in the base rigs nor the premium they get for them. But to each his own.

The 2990 is a good radio. Take it to a shop and get it fixed. Probably not a big deal.

Aggie, I agree with Wire Weasel, just have it fixed right.

1) Custom cb radio
2) DTB Radio
3) Sparky's cb
4) Bob's cb
5) 8541 Electronics

You won't go wrong having any of the above do the work.

Have you recently added a big power mic maybe? Is it squealing with the stock hand mic?

If it's squealing with the stock mic, then there is a new problem somewhere for sure.

If squealing only with an add-on power mic, then likely you have the mic gain turned up too high.

I have a power desk mic on a Galaxy DX 94HP and it will squeal like a pig if the mic gain settings are up too high.

SO I DON"T TURN THEM UP TOO HIGH

Has tons of mighty modulation at the below-squeal setting.

Yes I tried the stock mic it squeals with that too.

Is the shield over the microphone audio lead (white wire?) connected to ground? Could be RF in the audio. I have seen it affected by AM more than SSB a few times before.

i definatly agree with this.but gotta ask is the talkback on?if so
turn it off does it still do it?

There's no talkback on the RCI 2990.

ok must of just been on mine.had a toggle switch on back of radio but being
the speaker was were it was it always squealed,does any ther radio experience
this when hooked up were the 2990 is.if yes then id check all jumpers and other
coax and antenna swr ,ect.if then its definatly the radio sorry i cant be anymore
help but only squeals ive encountered were talkback realted id send it to
one of the shops listed in a earlier post

oh i forgot a good mobile
for the money is a MAGNUM 257 has all the channels 50watts pep
and 5 memory spaces for channel and modes.and best of all its under/around
200.00.for the money very hard to beat.i rank right with my 2510
