102 Inch SS Whip Sticker Shock!

From what I remember, it was the shipping that really killed you due to the length of the box. I ended up buying the DX Engineering one locally (probably 12 years ago)... it's a hoss, too.

DX Engineering has them for $42 DX Whip
Yeah and I bought my SPT Super Penetrator from DX and they didn't collect sales tax but at the end of the year they sent me a tax statement on the purchase and had to file extra forms at the end of the year and pay PA Sales Tax. So DX can Kiss my Back Side and won't get any more money out of me. We don't like end of year surprises because we aren't an accountant !

Ay caramba. $78 bucks for a 102 inch whip? That's insane.

DX Engineering has them for $42 DX Whip
Those whip get shipped as oversized so where ever you buy them online oversized shipping is included in the price or billed separately. $78 sounds about right.

DX Engineering sells the whip for $42 but add $39.99 for oversized shipping and it's $82

Remember when Ratshack sold them, the last one I bought was just under $20.

Yep! The shipping is the killer...

the 102 ihave on my pickup it is a antenna specialist i bought in 1975 for 9.99 at a shop in ky,,, the spring cost me 5 at a government auction,,, came off a state car,,,,very heavy,,

So I'm now thinking about getting a Wilson Trucker 2000 instead. Quite a bit cheaper, and tunable without having to cut the whip.

Thoughts?
Full quarter wave whips are the gold standard but not always pratical for some mobile installs. A Wilson 2000 will work just fine but that are almost as expensive. The obvious advantage to them is manageable height and fine tuning. The losses in the coil on the Wilson is insignificant to the receiver on the other end.

I can get a Wilson T2000 with the 10" shaft for $54 from Walmart online.

I bought a lot of antennas from Walmart.com because I have one of their re loadable gift cards and don't have to give credit card # over the internet. Never had it hacked and if they did they wouldn't get much.
