Well I got FT-891 and it works real nice with stock mic on SSB And as others have said “it’s a turd on AM”. LOL. Soooo I bought a BM-800 mic an cable with hand key switch and with adjusting mic gain this condenser mic is getting good reports. Waiting to get on the air wit a friend who will give me a very realistic review of how well the mic is performing.

was going to make an adapter from mine 4 pin to RJ45 and try it. I decided to get the BM-800 from Ebay and W2ENY cable and hand switch from Ebay also.

2 different guys on EBay is selling the adapter for $16. I might grab one for the heck of it. Try if first with a non powered 4 pin mic to see how it sounds.

What mod are we taking about?? The 11m mod or some type of Mic mod. ?? (n)

Just the 11m mod. It'd be very unlikely that I wanted to modify anything else at all.

I would be inclined to do it "mudfoot" style (shorting the pads during a reset if sure it would work). If it comes down to soldering jumpers over the SMT parts...I'm out. HAHA. That stuff is just too small for me to see and work with.

I'd also consider buying one modified...seller willing, of course.

You can buy a conductive pen, just draw a line across the to pads. Yhat way you undo it by just erasing the line.

Easy Peasy. All you need is a fine tip on your soldering iron, steady hands, and this guy's simple instructions. Took all of 30 seconds.

Contrary to what I've read elsewhere, the locals on 11 meters report my audio sounds excellent. (y)

Well, in my neighborhood the 11m guys are goggle-eyed over 150% modulation, but are very nice people. They tell me my radios sound good, too, but none of them are over-modulated.
In fact, just two days ago I am talking to a couple of them from my mobile, the AT-6666, and one of them says, "Preacher, I don't know what's going on, you are usually loud in my receive, but today you're way down low." A real nice fellow. I tell him that everything is fine on my end unless my antenna has a problem. He comes back, "I found the problem with your audio. My volume was turned down." So, I can't always trust the local 11m guys for accurate radio checks, but they are really nice to The Country Preacher.
