I recently was given a 138XLR, it makes great power on AM, but NOTHING on SSB. I seem to recall that there was a technical bulletin about just such a problem. I do know if you listen with another radio you can hear it even with no power on the meter. so at least that is something to go on.

if u gotta a mobile drive away see how far ya can get. get a external power
meter and check it
I should have been more specific. There is nothing on the external meter. I am planning to give this radio away to an old guy that is local hard on his luck
