Thanks guys for all the help. I wound up sending it out. Just got it back it had a few bad caps and the 5k pot on the am power was bad. But I did find out that the clarifier was already open and it had some low channels in it too. I had the meter replaced and it converted to a 4 pin. Now she's sounding good. I just need to get a 30 amp power supply and I'll be good to go.

from what you was saying it was doing sounded like some bad caps. well at least you have it working now. I like the 148 radios for ssb use. they are very stabile. I run a cobra 148F in my pickup. would not take for it and like the built in freq counter even though it is a 5 digit.
