Icom released a version of the IC-718 referred to as the "2024" version, which supposedly has some new digital IF filtering.
One odd thing is the manual for it still references additional crystal filters, which no longer available.
I don't know how different it is from the previous US version.
Can somebody confirm the broadband transmit modification for the 2024 version?
Is the speech processor still audio and not RF?
The price is now approaching the price of the IC-7300, but the controls on the IC-718 seem easier to use in mobile use.
The RF speech processor of the IC-7300 doesn't function at all in AM mode, but the audio speech processor in the older IC-718 does work in AM mode.
I notice that some sellers offer the 2024 version with the transmit unlocked, but I want to know if it is different or the same as the previous version.
I had an early 6-pin IC-718 and the receiver was terrible in it.
The mod for it in the US was one diode removed.
Then the later 4-pin version called for three diodes to be removed.
I haven't seen any information referencing the mod for the 2024 IC-718 or seen anybody posts that they had modified the current 2024 version.
